In a student employee capacity, may perform or assist with research or laboratory functions associated with various disciplines. This project situates the evolution and deployment of the concept of "scientism" in the early work of Austrian economist Friedrich Hayek. The neologism became a central plank of Hayek's argument against centralized economic planning. The project provides valuable historical context for the use and popularization of "scientism" while at the same time illuminating its political salience in Hayek's thought. The researcher will translate some correspondence of Hayek's from his native German into English.
