Job Description

This position is part time at 25% of an FTE per week (i.e. ~10 hours per week)
Project Overview:
COPEPOD is the Coastal and Oceanic Plankton Ecology, Production, and Observation Database. The position is responsible for updating and enhancing the COPEPOD toolkit, including COPEPODITE and NAUPLII. The enhancements will allow the toolkit to do more and to help self-generate ecosystem and status reports. Coordination with plankton scientists across NMFS science centers is required to ensure the toolkit is meeting their requirements.
Job Requirements:
Knowledge of Generic Mapping Tools software library (GMT, https://www.generic-mapping-tools.org/ ) - used for all
COPEPOD/COPEPODITE/NAUPLIUS
figure and map creation. Knowledge of Django Web Framework ( https://www.djangoproject.com/ ) - used for the
COPEPODITE/NAUPLIUS
toolkit web system Utilize Linux programming and data manipulation using Python, Bash (Linux shell), Awk/Sed, NetCDF to understand/modify/improve existing
COPEPOD/COPEPODITE/NAUPLIUS
scripts and shell libraries. Use HTML and JavaScript coding to provide on-event actions (e.g. on-click change displayed figure or radio button options) and html form submission (e.g. submission of selected options and data files via Django form into the toolkit processing system) Spawn and extraction results of command-line "R" operations - used for advanced statistics from existing R libraries Knowledge of NOAA and Fisheries environment and organizations Excellent communication, writing, and coordination skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity of time series statistical methods and analysis (needed to understand existing functions and to develop new ones) Knowledge of gridded data processing and manipulation (e.g. regridding in space and time) to load and convert raw satellite and model data into

1/2-degree, 1/4-degree, monthly and weekly fields Basic AWS instance spawning/ending skills to parallel process largest
