National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center, Wilberforce, Ohio Type:
Paid Internship, $15/hrSchedule:
Part-time, paid position starting on October 12, 2026 and ending on December 21, 2026 Notes onSchedule:
Must be available weekdays, between 9am and 4pm, for a minimum of 8 hours per week and a maximum of 24 hours per week.Reports to:

The Esther Williams Internship Fund was started by Dr. Laurence Glasco in memory of his sister. The fund was designed to provide internship experiences at the National Afro American Museum & Cultural Center for students from the surrounding Historically Black Colleges and Universities in Wilberforce who have an interest in a career in African American history and culture. This fund would provide paid opportunities for students to learn and gain invaluable experience serving in a professional museum environment.About Ohio History Connection:
The Ohio History Connection, formerly the Ohio Historical Society, is a statewide history organization with the mission to spark discovery of Ohio's stories. Chartered in 1885, the OHC carries out history services for Ohio and its citizens focused on preserving and sharing the state's history. This includes housing the state historic preservation office, the official state archives, local history office and managing more than 50 sites and museums across Ohio.Summary:
This position will work with the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center's Interpretive Supervisor to digitize lesson plans and activities created using materials from the Museum's Archives and Collections.Essential Functions:
- Organizing and cataloguing the existing set of traveling exhibits at NAAMCC
- Conducting research to help verify information for upcoming exhibits and projects
- Traveling to Wilberforce University archives on occasion to conduct in-person research
Required Education, Skills, Experience:
- Must be enrolled in an academic program OR a recent graduate from an academic program (within one year)
- Major in History or Education
- Experience with MS Word, Excel, possibly website building
- Experience working with scanners and printers
Required Competencies:
- Works well both independently and with and in support of colleagues to complete work.
- Demonstrates a potential to communicate well in written and verbal communications, including informal mediums like email and meetings
- Punctuality and promptness are a must.
Other Requirements:
- Must complete a background check and internship onboarding paperwork
- Must present at the semester's internship summit
- Must attend professional development opportunities and meetings when requested
Education and Experience Outcomes:
- Student intern will gain experience working "behind the scenes" at a Museum
- Student intern will understand how to interpret historical material in myriad ways to reach a wide variety of audiences
- Student intern will gain a unique perspectives and learn interesting aspects about African American history.
