Job Description

The Pennsylvania Legislative Reference Bureau seeks a Legislative History Analyst . The Pennsylvania Legislative Reference Bureau offers legal services to members of the legislature on a confidential, non-partisan basis. With a long and proud tradition of providing exceptional service and expertise, the Bureau prepares thousands of bills, amendments, resolutions and citations for introduction by the members of the Senate and House of Representatives during each two-year legislative session. For decades, the Bureau has been staffed by highly trained and skilled practitioners in the field of legislative drafting. Our employees have the opportunity to make important contributions to the legislative process. Job Summary A Legislative History Analyst follows the sessions of the Pennsylvania General Assembly, compiles and updates the legislative history for House of Representatives bills and resolutions and maintains files on the status of Senate legislative documents while in the House of Representatives. In addition, the Legislative History Analyst assists in the final publication of the House history. Primary Duties Review and record the actions of the House of Representatives on bills, resolutions, and amendments. Assist in the publication of the legislative history of Senate and House of Representatives bills and resolutions. Respond to inquiries from General Assembly members, their staff, and the public, concerning the status of legislation. Facilitate communications with Senate and House of Representatives members during session days. Assist in the preparation of legislative calendars. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the governmental structure of the Commonwealth and the Pennsylvania legislative process. Typing and word processing skills and a strong knowledge of grammar and punctuation. Advanced research skills and the ability to use reference materials effectively. Ability to pay close attention to detail and achieve a high degree of accuracy when accomplishing tasks. Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor under fast-paced stressful situations and work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines. Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage time to ensure responsiveness to requests. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Basic administrative and clerical skills in managing files and records. Knowledge and skill in the principles and practices of customer service. Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively as part of a team. Education and Experience A Bachelor's degree in English, history or political science or related field or equivalent education and experience is required. This is a full-time position with comprehensive benefits including medical insurance, paid parking, and retirement. May be required to work beyond normal working hours as defined by the needs of the Bureau.
