Electronic (Using your CalCareer Account) Job Description and Duties The duties of this job include: rocket-netting and banding of northern pintail before the beginning of the waterfowl hunting season, rocket-netting and banding of Aleutian Canada geese in late fall and applying neck collars for mark-resight surveys conducted later in the winter; collecting tissue samples from greater white-fronted geese harvested at Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge waterfowl check stations for DNA analysis to determine subspecies status. Track radio-marked Tule white-fronted geese using VHF telemetry from the ground and from fix-winged aircraft from fall to winter. Other duties include data entry, trap gear maintenance and potentially waterfowl disease sampling. The language below is required for these NT classifications.

Personal Leave Program:

Effective July 1, 2025, state employees are subject to temporary salary reductions ranging from 2% to 4.62% in exchange for Personal Leave Program (PLP) hours. This position may be eligible for a telework opportunity in accordance with departmental policies and operational needs. Employees are currently required to work in-person at least two (2) days per week. Working Conditions Incumbent may need to drive for as many as 8 hours. Work hours can be long and irregular, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Incumbent is also required to drive a state-owned vehicle to transport equipment and samples and conduct field work throughout the State. Incumbent must have the physical ability to lift 40 pounds and to hike one-mile to access field sites. Incumbent is expected to interact with the public and maintain a high level of professional integrity.

Incumbent shows willingness to:

work irregular hours including weekends and holidays, do routine work in order to learn, develop interest in and aptitude for the work, and wear a uniform. This position requires possession of a valid Class C Driver's License. Must maintain a clean driving record. The selected candidate may be required to provide a photocopy (front and back) of the license: Name as stated on the license, issuing state, DL #, Class, expiration.
