Electronic (Using your CalCareer Account) Job Description and Duties The duties of this job include: rocket-netting and banding of northern pintail before the beginning of the waterfowl hunting season, rocket-netting and banding of Aleutian Canada geese in late fall and applying neck collars for mark-resight surveys conducted later in the winter; collecting tissue samples from greater white-fronted geese harvested at Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge waterfowl check stations for DNA analysis to determine subspecies status. Track radio-marked Tule white-fronted geese using VHF telemetry from the ground and from fix-winged aircraft from fall to winter. Other duties include data entry, trap gear maintenance and potentially waterfowl disease sampling. The language below is required for these NT classifications.
  • Applicants who receive public assistance under the CalWORKs program shall be given hiring priority consideration as provided in Government Code, Section 19063.
  • Applicants who receive public assistance need to identify themselves as CalWORKs recipients in the comments section of the STD 678, Examination/Employment Application.

The Fish and Wildlife Scientific Aid classification is a non-testing classification. This position is posted in the following counties: Glenn/Colusa counties. Please apply to each county in which you are interested in working.
Personal Leave Program:
Effective July 1, 2025, state employees are subject to temporary salary reductions ranging from 2% to 4.62% in exchange for Personal Leave Program (PLP) hours. This position may be eligible for a telework opportunity in accordance with departmental policies and operational needs. Employees are currently required to work in-person at least two (2) days per week. Beginning July 1, 2026, employees will be required to work in-person at least four (4) days per week in alignment with Executive Order N-22-25. Working Conditions Incumbent may need to drive for as many as 8 hours. Work hours can be long and irregular, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends. https://www.wildlife.ca.gov Special Requirements Incumbent must possess good communication skills, get along well with others and work in small groups for extended periods of time. Incumbent is also required to drive a state-owned vehicle to transport equipment and samples and conduct field work throughout the State. Incumbent must have the physical ability to lift 40 pounds and to hike one-mile to access field sites. Incumbent is expected to interact with the public and maintain a high level of professional integrity.
Incumbent shows willingness to:
work irregular hours including weekends and holidays, do routine work in order to learn, develop interest in and aptitude for the work, and wear a uniform. This position requires possession of a valid Class C Driver's License. Must maintain a clean driving record. The selected candidate may be required to provide a photocopy (front and back) of the license: Name as stated on the license, issuing state, DL #, Class, expiration. The selected candidate may be required to provide transcripts (may be unofficial).
