Job Description

Under direct supervision, the Limited Service Recreation Assistant assists in the operation of recreation and community service programs including but not limited to facility rentals, volunteer functions, youth programs, senior activities, leisure enrichment classes, city special events, administrative support and customer service, and oversee the public's proper use of community recreational facilities. Attends mandatory pre-service and in-service training and meetings. Attends monthly program meetings. Completes inventory of necessary program supplies.. Oversees participants in a recreation program, activity or facility. Assist in leading recreation activities in program areas such as youth programs, senior activities, volunteer functions, leisure enrichment classes, and special events. Answer the phone and respond to emails, provide information to callers, answer program related questions and provide exceptional customer service. Assist customers at the front counter. Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service. Distributes promotional and marketing information. Provide facility and exhibit orientations and/or tours including appropriate tour materials. Monitors the facility during the duration of scheduled rental periods, scheduled classes or city programs; ensures compliance with all facility rules and regulations, anticipates and resolves issues quickly. Monitor patrons, patrol parks and enforce rules to ensure that permit areas are safe, clean, and functional; notify Public Safety as deemed necessary. Observe park conditions to ensure that permit areas, including picnic areas and fields are within appropriate standards. Opens, closes, secures and maintains a safe program environment at City facilities; conducts routine safety checks. Sets up and prepares tables, chairs, equipment, and supplies for programs or scheduled activities; Assist renters, visitors, and instructors with equipment setup/function and general service requests. Completes facility cleaning checklist during assigned shifts and notes items of concern to supervisor. Performs related duties as assigned. Must be at least 16 years of age. A minimum of six months experience performing similar duties is required. Demonstrated experience (paid or volunteer) working with the public in a structured or supervised social/recreational program is desirable.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATES
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid class C California driver's license and a current CPR, First Aid, AED, Sexual Harassment and Mandated Reporter certification within the first month of employment. California state law requires all public recreation program employees to submit to fingerprinting for the purpose of obtaining a summary of criminal convictions. Mobility

  • Constant hearing normal speech and talking in person; occasional talking on the telephone; Emotional/Special Conditions-Constant public contact, decision making and concentration; frequent exposure to outdoor conditions and working weekends and/or irregular hours; occasional overtime.
