  • Part-time BPSS-approved Role and Responsibilities:
    Instruction & Training
  • Deliver classroom-based instruction in all areas of Security & Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Teach installation standards, codes, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Instruct students on: Fire alarm systems Security systems Alarm transmission systems Control panels Testing and maintenance procedures Troubleshooting concepts
  • Prepare students for the NYS Security & Fire Alarm Installer License Exam.
  • Prepare students for NICET Level I & II certification examinations.
  • Incorporate real-world applications and industry scenarios into classroom lessons.
  • Utilize PowerPoint presentations, code books, and instructional materials to enhance learning.
  • Maintain current knowledge of NFPA 72, Life Safety Codes, and applicable electrical and fire alarm regulations. Curriculum & Course Management
  • Follow and maintain the approved curriculum and course outline.
  • Ensure all required instructional hours and course objectives are completed.
  • Evaluate student progress through written and practical testing.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and student performance records.
  • Assist with updating curriculum based on changes in codes, technology, and industry standards. C lassroom & Safety Responsibilities
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment.
  • Ensure all instructional materials and training resources are properly maintained and organized.
  • Enforce classroom policies and professional conduct standards.
  • Promote awareness of industry safety standards, codes, and safe work practices.
  • Report any facility or safety concerns to administration promptly. Student Development & Professionalism
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to students pursuing careers in the industry.
  • Support students with exam preparation and study strategies.
  • Maintain a respectful and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Communicate student concerns or performance issues to administration when necessary. Industry & Compliance Responsibilities
  • Stay current with advancements in fire alarm and security technology.
  • Maintain knowledge of New York State licensing requirements and NICET standards.
  • Participate in professional development and continuing education opportunities.
  • Ensure instructional practices align with industry expectations and workforce demands. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Security and/or Fire Alarm System Installation.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 72 and related fire protection codes.
  • NICET Certification preferred.
  • Prior teaching or training experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to effectively teach classroom theory, codes, and exam preparation content.
  • Familiarity with low-voltage systems, controls, and alarm transmission methods. I nstructor Expectations

Work Environment:
This position primarily consists of classroom instruction and exam preparation training. Instructors are responsible for creating an engaging and professional educational environment focused on code comprehension, industry standards, and licensing exam readiness. Qualifications and Education Requirements (Years of Experience / HS Diploma etc) All individuals who wish to teach Department of State approved security or fire alarm system installer courses, within the State of New York must provide evidence of the following: 1. Having obtained a New York State license for the business of installing security or fire alarm systems. (Attach a copy of your license with the application.) OR 2. Obtaining a passing grade on the New York State security or fire alarm system installer examination. All Electrical Training Center, Inc. instructors are required to obtain their New York State Department of Education Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision (BPSS) Teacher License. The license application is done online by creating an account with: https://my.ny.gov/ and using that website as a portal to the BPSS online database & creating an account on that database. After online account creation, Instructors will need to complete the application and upload their documents into the applicable sections of the application, which include: A high school or college diploma Applicable credentials and trade-related certifications, and/or licenses A resume A letter from previous or current employer on company letterhead citing dates employed, job title; job description and duties; and supervisor. For individuals self-employed, you may compose an affidavit citing the name of your business, date founded to present date or date business closed; job title; job description, and duties. This affidavit needs to include a section for a NYS Notary Jurat & must be signed by a notary. Currently ETC has two notary publics on staff. Criminal background court documents if applicable Previously held
NYS BPSS
Licenses if applicable NYS BPSS-approved Teacher Certification course completions if applicable. The cost of application is $100. Preferred Skills
