Job Description

Summary:
This position is responsible for ensuring good order, proper conduct, and safe conditions at the Alaska SeaLife Center.
Education/Training Requirements:
High school diploma or GED. Previous experience in a security-related role is a plus, but entry-level applicants are welcome. Working knowledge of communications and security alarm systems is a plus. Skills in communicating with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality and decision making. Familiarity with basic computer skills for report writing and operating security equipment such as surveillance systems. Must be at least 18 years of age.
Essential Duties:
1. Patrols the facilities and grounds ensuring that good order, proper conduct, and safe conditions prevail. 2. Assists staff and visitors in various capacities, communicating via two-way radio. Responds to emergency requests and crimes in progress, taking appropriate initial action. Responds to and investigate incidents by interviewing witnesses, documenting with photos, and preparing detailed incident reports. 3. Serves as the primary contact for emergency services. 4. Conducts hourly foot patrols and utilizes various electronic equipment and vehicles to monitor facilities. Contacts on-call ASLC personnel and requests for police assistance as needed, following departmental procedures. 5. Fosters good relations with visitors, volunteers, community leaders, contractors, and staff members by promoting positive attitudes, goodwill, cooperation, and high standards of service. 6. Maintain a daily log of events and unusual occurrences that take place during their shift. 7. Maintains CPR/First Aid certification. Provides aid to staff and visitors in emergency situations. 8. Carries out custodial tasks as assigned. Tasks may include vacuuming the gallery and office floors, assisting with carpet shampooing, dusting, and light cleaning. 9. Works rotating shift. May be required to work overtime. 10. Maintains a valid driver's license. 11. Performs other related duties as assigned. 12. Complies with Alaska SeaLife Center policies, procedures, and programs.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Skill in communicating with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality, decision making, and basic computers skills.
