Job Description

This position is responsible for protecting all property of Samaritan Healthcare, all professionals and other persons on said property, within confines and limitations normal to a healthcare facility located in Central Washington. The Security Officer must be on a continuous patrol of grounds and buildings and monitor video, maintaining a keen sense of awareness, at all times, to detect suspicious persons, malfunctioning equipment, safety or fire hazards, cluttered areas, unauthorized vehicles, etc. The Security Officer shall be in constant contact with the Security Director, House Supervisor or Department Directors by radio/telephone/cell phone and must respond immediately to a request for assistance. In case of arrests or suppression of unruly persons, the Security Officer must coordinate with local law enforcement authorities and remain within the hospital's legal bounds in all actions. This is a per diem position working various hour shifts and days of the week. Position requires flexibility to work varying shifts and hours, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
EXTRA INCENTIVE
In lieu of benefits, receive additional 12% differential.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Work with the Security Director to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and professionals. Perform interior security checks of each of the floors hourly while on shift. Complete exterior checks a minimum of twice per shift. Check all exterior lighting and access routes. Report all unsafe conditions to the House Supervisor and Security Director. Control access by stopping unauthorized vehicles and redirecting them to an appropriate area. Monitor CCTV Cameras and respond to the Emergency Department when Law Enforcement vehicles are spotted. Escort professionals and/or visitors to their vehicle when requested. Monitor and control visitor/patient access. Grant all badge access, issue keys, and parking permits. Inspect for and report safety hazards. Investigate and complete an Incident Report of suspicious activity on Samaritan Healthcare property. Respond immediately to requests for assistance. Will always be available by page, phone or radio while on duty, with no reports of non-response (other than during designated rest breaks and meal periods). Respond to a disaster alert when notified. Lock/unlock doors as assigned. Provides shuttle and escort services for Samaritan professionals as directed by management. Complete all written reports, and daily officer's log. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise. Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to: security and safety, understanding of MSD, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics. Ensures self-compliance with organization policies and procedures, as well as labor agreements. Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the organization's values. Conducts self in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the organization. Ensures that additional accountabilities, as may be required, by management be handled in a manner necessary to meet organizational standards. No use of personal Laptops, Tablets, or Earbuds while on shift unless authorized by the Security Director.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The individual in this position reports to the Security Director. This position works closely with all professionals, visitors, medical and law enforcement personnel in order to provide a safe environment.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education:
High school diploma or GED.
Experience :
Three (3) years of law enforcement/Military experience preferred. Previous industrial security and/or law enforcement training.
Certification :
Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (HCP) level to be completed within 3 months of hire. IAHSS Certification to be completed after hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical stamina is required, as this person is constantly on the move and must be able to get quickly from one place to another. Strength is required to effectively use physical restraint. Ability to spend long hours on patrol or at a monitor station. Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public.
