Job Description

The Chautauqua County Department of Finance is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior Account Clerk in the Mayville, New York office. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys financial recordkeeping, auditing, reconciliations, and supporting critical county financial operations. The Senior Account Clerk performs advanced but routine clerical and accounting work involving the maintenance, review, and auditing of financial records. While established policies and procedures guide the work, the successful candidate will exercise sound independent judgment in handling details and may supervise the work of others. This position is being filled on a provisional basis pending the outcome of a future Civil Service examination for this title. Key Responsibilities Supervise, analyze, and post a variety of financial accounts, receipts, and disbursements Make ledger entries and maintain accurate financial records Audit bills, vouchers, purchase orders, and claims to ensure compliance with contracts, agreements, and county purchasing procedures Review financial records for accuracy and proper account coding Perform bank reconciliations and prepare related reports Coordinate with bank officials to resolve discrepancies Communicate with county departments and vendors to obtain information related to auditing and payment processing Prepare checks and maintain records of issued payments Receive and deposit funds; issue receipts as needed Assist with bank fund transfers Supervise account balancing and prepare summary financial statements Compile payroll data and assist with payroll preparation and verification Prepare financial, statistical, budget, and audit reports Classify recurring receipts and expenditures according to prescribed accounting codes Assist with maintaining municipal financial records and reports Answer phones and provide information related to financial or budget matters Support purchasing operations by obtaining quotes, preparing purchase orders, and maintaining purchasing documentation Maintain perpetual inventory records for supplies and equipment Operate computers, calculators, and standard office equipment Perform related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:
Option A:
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two-year college or business school with an Associate's Degree in Accounting, Business Management, or a related field, AND one (1) year of clerical experience involving the maintenance and review of financial accounts and records
OR Option B:
Three (3) years of clerical experience involving the maintenance and review of financial accounts and records
Pay:
$22.94 - $29.52 per hour
