April 2026 SUMMARY The Shop Assistant Tire Trainee is an entry‑level position designed for minor employees to gain hands‑on experience in an automotive tire and service environment. This role focuses on shop organization, cleanliness, basic tire knowledge, and supervised apprentice‑level tasks. All duties are performed in compliance with federal and state child labor laws and under appropriate supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Includes the following and other duties may be assigned.)
Daily Shop & Support Duties:
Responsible for performing the following non‑hazardous tasks: Sweep and clean shop and office floors Empty shop and office trash receptacles Clean tire machines and shop equipment of dirt and debris (no servicing or repair) Dispose of used tires in the designated outdoor tire storage area Organize and stage new tires in their proper storage locations Stock front‑office product shelves and put inventory away Perform basic exterior maintenance, including mowing grass when needed Trainee Duties (Direct Supervision Required): The employee may assist with and learn the following tasks only under direct, on‑site supervision by a qualified technician: Learn basic tire sizes and tire types Learn fundamentals of light‑duty tire repair (passenger cars, SUVs, light trucks only) Assist with removing and installing tires off the vehicle Operate power‑driven tire machines to mount and dismount light‑duty tires only Practice proper flat‑repair methods and workmanship standards Learn the basics of performing an oil change (limited to non‑hazardous aspects) Learn basic tire rotation procedures and tire wear patterns Learn basic customer invoicing and point‑of‑sale computer system functions
Prohibited Duties:
To ensure safety and legal compliance, the employee may not perform the following duties (if under the age of 18): Heavy‑duty semi tire repair or replacement Heavy‑duty equipment tire repair or replacement Any work involving interlocking or multi‑piece rims Driving company vehicles on public roadways Driving customer vehicles on public roadways Acting as a helper for any vehicle operated on public roads Operating lifting hoists or racks without direct supervision Any task classified as hazardous under federal or state child labor laws Federal child labor regulations prohibit minors under 18 from motor vehicle driving and certain hazardous operations, including specific tire-related activities and unsupervised hoisting equipment use.
Other Duties:
Effectively communicating by verbal and written means with customers, employees, and management. Adherence to safety policies. Promoting and adhering to the company Core Values of honesty, integrity & teamwork. Adhering to cooperative credit policy. Securing facilities and equipment when closing. Promptly and regularly report to work and work overtime hours as needed. Present a clean and professional appearance. Employee is required to perform all other duties as directed.
SUPERVISION & SAFETY
All trainee duties must be performed with direct supervision Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times The employee must follow all posted safety rules and company policies Restricted duties will be reviewed with the employee upon hire and documented
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 16 years of age. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EXPERIENCE
Must have basic computer operation experience. Reliable attendance and positive attitude. Willingness to learn and follow instructions.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS
Driver s License Required.
REASONING ABILITY
The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must be able to think quickly and perform a mental assessment of workplace hazards, take appropriate precautions, and choose appropriate PPE as dictated by need, regulation, and labeling.

The employee may occasionally need to climb ladders (may range from 4 to 10 ) and stairs. This may include structural ladders as well as climbing into applicator rig, large vehicles, and/or tractors. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employees must understand and implement all related safety policies, procedures and programs for prevention and protection while performing job duties in various work environments.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in this work environment is usually loud (although not believed to exceed the eight-hour threshold for working in or around loud equipment).
