Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a pivotal role supporting students by providing sign language interpretation services in an educational setting. As a contract Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a key part in fostering communication and inclusion for students with hearing differences, ensuring equitable access to all aspects of their learning environment. Your expertise will positively impact students' academic and social experiences through meaningful interactions with teachers, peers, and staff.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English Completion of an interpreter training program or equivalent educational background Experience working with children and adolescents in educational settings Strong understanding of deaf culture and the unique needs of D/HH students Possession of relevant interpreter certification (e.g., EIPA, RID, or state-specific credentials) Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and adaptability in a dynamic school environment
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities between staff and students Facilitate effective communication during meetings, assemblies, and extracurricular events Collaborate with teachers and special education staff to adapt communications as needed Support comprehension and full participation for students using sign language Maintain accurate records of interpreting assignments and adhere to ethical guidelines Participate in team meetings or trainings as needed to remain updated on student needs and best practices Take on this rewarding opportunity to empower students by bridging communication gaps and enriching their educational journey.
