Job Description
Social-Emotional Learning Specialist Part-Time, September 2026 - April 2027, Approximately 15 -17 hours per month Hillside School and Center for Dyslexia is seeking a warm, collaborative, and engaging professional to support the social-emotional growth of elementary-aged students through small-group instruction and school-wide partnership. This part-time position is designed for someone who enjoys working directly with children and understands the social-emotional experiences that can accompany dyslexia and related learning differences. The role is centered on skill-building, confidence, and connection rather than therapy or clinical counseling. Position Overview The Social-Emotional Learning Specialist will facilitate small-group, social-emotional learning sessions for elementary-aged students throughout the school year. Groups of approximately 8-10 students will meet every other week and focus on age-appropriate topics such as: Emotional awareness and regulation Confidence and self-advocacy Flexible thinking and problem-solving Growth mindset and resilience Navigating frustration, stress, and mistakes Understanding and embracing learning differences In addition to student groups, this role includes collaborating with faculty and communicating with parents to help strengthen Hillside's community-wide support of students' social-emotional development. Responsibilities Help students build confidence, self-awareness, and emotional regulation skills within a supportive small-group environment Using the Zones of Regulation program as a curricular framework, develop and teach six 50-minute small-group SEL sessions every other week for groups of 8-10 students Present to faculty approximately three times per year on content covered with students to promote consistent language and strategies within the school Lead an introductory parent session focused on Hillside's SEL approach and student support Provide written parent updates and resources 2-3 times per year Support and contribute to a school culture centered on belonging, self-awareness, and resilience Preferred candidates will have: A degree in psychology, social work, special education, elementary education, or a related field At least three years of working with children in educational, counseling, or group-based settings Familiarity with social-emotional learning, child development, and student support practices Understanding of dyslexia and related learning differences Ability to create engaging, developmentally appropriate SEL lessons and activities Strong facilitation and behavior management skills that support emotional regulation, participation, and positive group dynamics Warm, collaborative relationship-building skills when working with students, families, and colleagues Schedule Approximately 15-17 hours per MONTH from September 2026 through April 2027; broken down into 12 student-facing, small group instruction hours, 3-5 planning and collaboration hours monthly. Exact scheduling will be determined collaboratively upon hiring. Student-facing hours will occur every other week between 9am-11am (twice weekly) and 1pm-3pm (once weekly) Faculty presentations and parent communication will be coordinated with the administration Compensation Compensation range: $8,000-$11,000 for the school year, depending on experience and qualifications The position runs from September 2026 through April 2027 About Hillside Hillside School and Center for Dyslexia unlocks the potential of dyslexic students through specialized instruction and champions awareness and change through community and professional engagement.
