Job Description

This position is part of the Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy Office, Department of Energy. As an Economist, you will perform a broad range of professional economics work, which involves the formulation, programming and guidance of a very large, or two or more large, economic analysis projects, or continuing programs.
Qualifications:
You must meet both the Basic Requirement and the Specialized Experience to qualify for this series as described below.
BASIC REQUIREMENT
Degree:
economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. OR Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
GS-13 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 2 of 3 of the following: Planning and organizing economic studies or multiple concurrent research projects involving energy markets, commodities, technologies, or industrial/regulatory policy. Preparing economic reports, analytical papers, or manuscripts, and briefing technical findings and economic implications to organizational leadership, clients, or stakeholders to support strategic decision-making. Modifying or executing quantitative economic models or cost-benefit/impact frameworks (e.g., parametric models, input-output analyses, or econometric test cases) to evaluate the impact of market, environmental, technological, or policy changes. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
