Job Description

Firecrown is seeking an experienced, sharp, and adaptable Senior Business Journalist to produce high-impact, deeply researched reporting across a diverse portfolio of premier brands, including FreightWaves , FLYING , Astronomy , the Chattanooga Times Free Press , and others. Working directly under the assignment and editorial direction of CEO Craig Fuller, you will cover critical business, supply chain, market, and financial narratives. You must be equally comfortable breaking down complex Wall Street trends, dissecting SEC filings, and translating venture capital activity into compelling, accessible stories for specialized B2B and consumer audiences. This position is open to candidates located within commuting distance to Chattanooga, TN. Regular in-office work will be required.
Key Responsibilities Execute Executive Assignments:
Report and write a minimum of 5 high-quality, fully vetted news stories or feature articles per week, directly assigned by CEO Craig Fuller.
Financial & Market Analysis:
Read and analyze balance sheets, income statements, 10-K/10-Q filings, and private investment pitch decks to extract core financial stories.
Multi-Brand Reporting:
Adapt tone, depth, and subject matter expertise seamlessly across diverse beats—from commercial aviation and aerospace to supply chain economics, local business, and science/technology markets.
Source & Enterprise Coverage:
Develop strong industry contacts across Wall Street, venture capital firms, corporate leadership, and market research institutions.
Rapid Turnaround & Accuracy:
Pitch, report, write, and self-edit under strict daily deadlines without sacrificing technical precision or narrative drive
Requirements Experience:
3-5+ years of dedicated business, corporate, or financial journalism experience at a major news outlet, trade publication, or financial analysis platform.
Financial Literacy:
Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and report on corporate financial statements, earnings reports, valuation models, VC deal structures, and Wall Street market dynamics.
Editorial Versatility:
Proven capability to write for varied audiences—ranging from supply chain executives and aviation enthusiasts to retail investors and general readers.
Workflow & Output:
Comfortable working directly with executive leadership, taking clear direction, and consistently hitting a baseline output of 5+ filed stories per week.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with financial data platforms (e.g., Bloomberg Terminal, SEC EDGAR, PitchBook, or similar market intelligence tools). Firecrown is an equal opportunity employer.
