Sustainability and Environmental Justice Scholar Reed College - 4.0 Portland, OR Job Details Part-time 1 day ago Benefits Health insurance Qualifications Driver's License Bachelor's degree Van driving Full Job Description Environmental Health and Safety The Sustainability and Environmental Justice (SEJ) Scholar is a 12 month limited duration position with work duties supplementing and enriching Reed's regular academic programming by supporting the educational work of the Sustainability Office and co-curricular collaboration. Putting sustainability education into practice at our residential community in the Garden and Canyon Houses, the SEJ Scholar reports to the Sustainability Coordinator, with guidance from the Garden House Area Coordinator and chair of Environmental Humanities (EH). The SEJ Scholar lives in the Canyon House and supports engagement with sustainability and environmental justice for the sixteen residents, as well as for the expanded Reed community through collaboration with the Sustainability Intern Program and partnered faculty. As a post baccalaureate student, the SEJ Scholar will attend and participate in a relevant course of their choice in the Fall and Spring semester. This is a part time job with an educationally-based stipend. The position is not to exceed 15 hours per week in administrative and programmatic tasks, and 10 hours per week dedicated to an academic experience supported through the EH initiative. During the academic year, the college will pay you up to total of $13,104 this position for work performed, to be paid in stipends of $504 bi-weekly for 12 months of continued service, in addition to on campus housing (a private room in the Canyon House), a board plan, and student health insurance. You yourself contribute an important aspect of diversity to your work team You are committed to enhancing the student experience at Reed through experiential learning and holistic care What You'll Do Support integrative learning and co-curricular partnerships for courses and events engaging questions of social and environmental justice across disciplinary boundaries Support events and programming for the expanded Reed community in partnership with speakers series (Visiting Writers Series, EcoCinema, Thesis Collective, etc.) Assist with place-based learning and field work in partnered courses by organizing logistics and transportation assistance, van driver certification, and coordination with relevant offices as needed Partner with the House Advisor to develop a lively educational environment conducive to the study and practice of sustainability and environmental justice in the Garden House Communicate about events, upcoming opportunities, and campus updates by serving as a communications hub for contributions to Reed News and the Sustainability and EH websites Collaborate with the Sustainability Office, EH, and ES to connect Garden House to ongoing programming and promote opportunities for learning in the community Attend bi-weekly Sustainability Internship team meetings Model sustainability practices in the home - low/zero waste, composting, water and energy conservation, low carbon cooking, etc. Create an educational campaign to support behavior change in residence halls Option to participate in place-based learning (e.g., field trips, field work, and community engagement) related to sustainability and environmental justice by permission of instructor Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university Must be a recent graduate of Reed College Driver's license and capacity to become van-driver certified by Reed College Application Instructions You will be directed to Interfolio to create a free account and begin your application.
