Job Description

Planner / Land Use Planner Position Overview A multidisciplinary planning, engineering, and environmental consulting firm is seeking a Planner / Land Use Planner with 1+ years of professional experience to support a variety of land use, entitlement, and development projects. This role is well suited for a planning professional with hands‑on exposure to zoning, permitting, and regulatory coordination who is looking to continue building technical and client-facing experience in a consulting environment. The Planner will work closely with internal project teams, clients, and public agencies to support residential, commercial, and mixed‑use development projects from early feasibility through entitlement and approval. Key Responsibilities Planning & Regulatory Support Conduct site feasibility analyses, due diligence research, and land‑use investigations Review and interpret zoning ordinances, development regulations, comprehensive plans, and environmental constraints Support and manage entitlement processes, including zoning approvals, site plans, subdivisions, special permits, and variance applications Coordinate with municipal, regional, and state agencies throughout project review and approval processes Track regulatory requirements, compliance deadlines, and agency approvals Project Coordination Collaborate with clients, engineers, surveyors, architects, and internal multidisciplinary teams Attend planning board, zoning board, and public hearings as needed to support project approvals Maintain organized project documentation, correspondence, schedules, and approval records Technical Deliverables Prepare conceptual site layouts, land‑use plans, and associated planning documentation Draft planning reports, narrative summaries, maps, exhibits, and presentation materials Utilize GIS, CAD, and related tools to support planning analysis and visual communications Community & Stakeholder Engagement Assist with community outreach initiatives and public meeting preparations Present project information to municipal officials, stakeholders, and the public when required
Required Skills & Core Competencies Land Use Planning Zoning & Regulatory Review Permitting & Entitlements Regulatory Compliance Environmental & Development Constraints Strong Written and Verbal Communication Project Coordination & Organization Education & Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Land Use Planning, Geography, Environmental Studies, Civil Engineering, or a related field 1+ year of professional experience in planning, land use consulting, permitting, or a related regulatory environment
Preferred:
Master's degree in Urban Planning or a related discipline Prior experience working with municipal agencies or development review processes Additional Qualifications Working knowledge of local, regional, and state land‑use and environmental regulations Familiarity with GIS, CAD, or similar planning/mapping tools Experience preparing written reports and regulatory submittals Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a consulting environment Professional presence and comfort interacting with clients, agencies, and public stakeholders Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of White Plains, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
