Job Description

Stark County Regional Planning Commission is accepting applications for the full-time position of Transportation Planner. This is a professional position in regional/transportation planning. This employee works under the general supervision of the SCATS Technical Director to assist in the development and implementation of transportation planning programs in Stark County. Works closely with public transportation providers, local governments and local communities to implement public transportation funding through state and federal programs. This is an exempt professional position under the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act.

CHARACTERISTIC WORK

Prepares and coordinates Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) functions, long range transportation planning, land use planning, bike ped planning, transit planning, freight planning, travel demand forecasting, and GIS analysis; Collects, analyzes and interprets social and statistical data for various planning and area studies as related to transportation planning; Prepares maps, charts, models, sketches and other graphic and visual presentations to illustrate study findings; Collects and tabulates traffic counts, accident data, 24‑hour highway capacity, turn movements, mass transit ridership; Attends and conducts MPO planning meetings and responds to public inquiries in person, on the phone, or in writing; Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with a minimum of two (2) years professional experience in transportation/planning related field; or a master's degree from an accredited college with major course work in transportation/planning or closely related field. Must have valid driver's license.
