Full Job Description Coordinator, Property Preservation Part-time:

Onsite German Village Society (GVS) Columbus, Ohio Position Summary The Coordinator of Property Preservation serves as a primary resource for German Village residents navigating exterior alternations (building and landscape) within the historic district. This role supports property owners in German Village who seek guidance as they approach the City's Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) process, ensuring projects protect the architectural integrity, materials, and character of the neighborhood while reducing confusion and delays. As a steward of the "Caretakers of a Legacy™" mission, this position blends historic preservation expertise, resident service, and collaborative problem-solving. Key Responsibilities 1. Resident COA Support & Guidance Serve as first point of contact for residents considering exterior alterations to their structures or landscape. Provide guidance on City of Columbus COA requirements, timelines, and submission materials. Review draft applications for completeness and alignment with historic district guidelines. Educate homeowners on preservation best practices (brick, sandstone, windows, doors, roofing, fences, etc.). Assist with understanding applicable sections of Columbus City Code (Chapters 3116 & 3119). Maintaining visibility into new materials and manufacturers on the market that may fit the needs of residents' when trying to comply with the Guidelines Engaging with designers and contractors who perform work in the District (or want to perform work in the District) to ensure they are aware of the Guidelines and requirements Maintaining a database/log of utility/City projects and work to ensure that residents are aware ahead of time and for follow-up that the projects are abiding by City code-policy. 2. Preservation Education & Outreach Conduct informational workshops, forums, and one-on-one consultations. Develop written guides, checklists, and FAQs for COA applicants. Help residents understand material standards specific to German Village (brick sidewalks, sandstone curbs, historic masonry, etc.). Promote preservation as a value-add to property investment and neighborhood continuity. 3. City & Stakeholder Coordination Maintain working relationships with: Columbus Historic Preservation Office staff German Village Commission members Contractors, architects, and preservation specialists Monitor proposed code or policy changes impacting the district. 4. Project Tracking & Documentation Maintain internal tracking system of resident inquiries and COA outcomes. Analyze trends (common errors, frequent project types, timeline bottlenecks). Prepare periodic reports for GVS leadership and Trustees. 5. Customer Service & Community Presence Maintain an open-door, visible presence in the Village. Respond promptly and professionally to resident inquiries. Balance advocacy for preservation standards with practical resident needs. 6- . GVS Team-Building Approach

Board of Trustees Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree (or Bachelor's-prepared) in Historic Preservation, Urban Planning, Architecture, Construction, or related field (or equivalent experience). Familiarity with historic district regulations and design review processes, especially in German Village. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated customer service orientation. Ability to interpret building plans and exterior design elements.Preferred:
Experience working with municipal boards or commissions. Knowledge of Columbus historic preservation policies. Understanding of masonry, historic materials, and traditional building techniques. Experience in community-based nonprofit or civic organization.
