This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position with a hybrid work schedule that allows for remote work on Mondays and Fridays. The Lead Urban Designer is responsible for providing senior-level technical leadership to project teams and delivering technically sound urban design solutions that advance the organization's project portfolio. This role is a senior-level technical contributor with project management responsibilities. What You Will Do Senior-Level Technical Contributor Responsibilities
  • Provide senior-level technical direction across multi-disciplinary projects that require urban design expertise. Conduct senior-level technical reviews of project deliverables to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Conduct complex site analyses and other research to evaluate existing physical and spatial conditions and assess community characteristics to help determine project strategies.
  • Develop preliminary urban design concepts through drawings, sketches, illustrations, and diagrams to determine effective urban design approaches.
  • Develop analytical urban design frameworks, such as site layouts, digital models, maps, and other visualizations, to evaluate urban design alternatives and establish effective solutions.
  • Coordinate and contribute to the development of graphics and other visual materials and content for client and stakeholder meetings, community engagement events, public workshops, and charrettes. Ensure client feedback or public input is integrated into recommendations and project deliverables.
  • Coordinate and contribute to the technical and design production of reports, presentations, plans, and other technical documentation for project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across the organization to ensure project objectives are achieved on schedule.
  • Perform additional duties, as assigned. Project Management Responsibilities
  • Lead all phases of projects from planning to delivery, including scope, schedule, budget, staffing and resource allocation, technical production, and quality management. Coordinate with the Principal-in-Charge, as needed.
  • Actively monitor project performance against established project plans, including scopes, schedules, budgets, deliverables, and other Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure project objectives are met and remain on target.
  • Oversee the technical production and quality of projects, including staffing allocation and coordination and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) reviews.
  • Manage client relationships and expectations through ongoing communication related to project progress and status of deliverables. Address client feedback or other concerns that affect project scope, schedule, budget, technical production, quality, or overall client satisfaction.
  • Identify business development opportunities and contribute to efforts to secure new or expanded work, such as participating in industry events or conferences.
  • Provide clear direction to project team members related to project assignments, priorities, deadlines, and performance expectations.
  • Perform additional duties, as assigned. Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud software, including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and related design applications
  • Proficiency in Rhino, SketchUp, or a related 3D modeling and design software
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, particularly ArcGIS
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Proven ability to manage complex workloads while consistently meeting deadlines
  • Proven ability to work independently and effectively within team environments Minimum Requirements
Education:
Master's degree in Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, or a related field from an accredited Planning Accreditation Board (PAB), American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), or National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) institution
  • Years of experience: 10 years of relevant experience

  • Prior project management experience Desirable Qualifications
