This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position with a hybrid work schedule that allows for remote work on Mondays and Fridays. The Lead Urban Planner is responsible for providing senior-level technical leadership to project teams and delivering technically sound urban planning solutions that advance the organization's project portfolio. This role is a senior-level technical contributor with project management responsibilities. What You Will Do Senior-Level Technical Contributor Responsibilities
- Provide senior-level technical direction across multi-disciplinary projects that require urban planning expertise. Conduct senior-level technical reviews of project deliverables to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Evaluate complex comprehensive plans and land development regulations and recommend revisions or amendments needed to address statutory non-compliance and inconsistencies between adopted policies and regulations.
- Synthesize qualitative and quantitative data from Census, market research, community engagement, and other sources. Conduct complex analyses to evaluate existing conditions and assess community trends and priorities to help shape project strategies.
- Develop maps with GIS software to evaluate spatial relationships and geographic patterns and recommend effective land use and development planning approaches.
- Revise policy and regulatory language to resolve inconsistencies between comprehensive plans and land development regulations. Draft proposed policy or regulatory amendments.
- Develop presentations, activities, and other materials and content for client and stakeholder meetings, community engagement events, public workshops, and charrettes. Incorporate client feedback or public input into recommendations and project deliverables.
- Develop reports, presentations, maps, and other technical documentation for project deliverables.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across the organization to ensure project objectives are achieved on schedule.
- Perform additional duties, as assigned. Project Management Responsibilities
- Lead all phases of projects from planning to delivery, including scope, schedule, budget, staffing and resource allocation, technical production, and quality management. Coordinate with the Principal-in-Charge, as needed.
- Actively monitor project performance against established project plans, including scopes, schedules, budgets, deliverables, and other Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure project objectives are met and remain on target.
- Oversee the technical production and quality of projects, including staffing allocation and coordination and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) reviews.
- Manage client relationships and expectations through ongoing communication related to project progress and status of deliverables. Address client feedback or other concerns that affect project scope, schedule, budget, technical production, quality, or overall client satisfaction.
- Identify business development opportunities and contribute to efforts to secure new or expanded work, such as participating in industry events or conferences.
- Provide clear direction to project team members related to project assignments, priorities, deadlines, and performance expectations.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
- Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, particularly ArcGIS
- Highly effective written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills
- Proven ability to manage organizational priorities and complex workloads while consistently meeting deadlines
- Proven ability to work independently and effectively within team environments Minimum Requirements
Education:
Master's degree in Urban Planning, City Planning, Regional Planning, or a related field from an accredited Planning Accreditation Board (PAB) institution
- Years of experience: 10 years of relevant experience
Professional Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
Active AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) Certification Preferred Qualifications
