An Academic or Guidance Counselor provides guidance to students in elementary, middle and high schools to help them succeed academically and socially. Works with school teachers and administrators to address problems that affect student performance, and identifies resources for students and families. Helps high school students to plan academic course work and advises on the college search and application process.

Qualifications:
A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in guidance and counseling and course work in psychology, testing and measurement, sociology, and education. Must be eligible for a valid teacher's certificate, with endorsement in counseling and guidance. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

Principal Job Goal:
To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible men and women.
Terms of Employment:
