Orange Approved Supervisor Brittnie Ferguson Supervisor Email bferguson@chapman.edu Scheduling Please use dates within Chapman Academic Calendar ( https://www.chapman.edu/academics/academic-calendar.aspx ) Desired Start Date 10/12/2026 Projected End Date 05/23/2027 Average number of hours per week Up to 10 Hrs Position Summary Information Job Description Summary Argyros College Undergraduate Academic Peer Advisors are a valuable academic resource as they help first-year and sophomore students select classes that meet their program requirements and their interests; provide information on Argyros academic programs, Chapman academic policies and procedures, and make referrals to campus resources. They also provide advice to their classmates that can aid in student success or increasing sense of belonging at Chapman based on their experiences as students at Chapman University. Responsibilities Contributes to a professional, helpful, welcoming atmosphere and maintain a positive attitude for students, staff, faculty, and visitors of the department. Communicate with Argyros First-Years and Sophomores about appointment availability via email. Assist Argyros Academic Advisors with creating advising materials. Hold and manage calendar for in-person appointments and be available during your assigned advising hours. Respond to all email inquiries in a timely and professional manner. Perform basic intake analysis to determine if they can assist the student with their inquiry or refer to appropriate person, department, or college on campus. Track and keep notes for every student meeting. Meetings should be scheduled for 30 minutes per student. Help first-years and sophomores plan out when to take their major courses so they stay on track for graduation. Answer questions about general education courses, enrolling or waitlisting in courses, major-related questions, incorporating study abroad into grad plan, and graduating on schedule. Be available to assist the Argyros Academic Advisors at Advising Fest during registration periods in November and April. Strive to constantly be accurate and honest in all communication. Attend all training sessions and peer advising meetings. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Junior or Senior Business Administration or Accounting major within the Argyros College of Business and Economics GPA of 3.0 or above Availability to work Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9am and 4pm Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills Reliability and punctuality Well organized with assigned projects Ability to think critically and work independently Ability to motivate and inspire peers along their academic journey Openness to share own academic experiences for the encouragement of peers Commitment to maintain confidentiality and represent Chapman University in a professional manner Desired Qualifications Knowledge of Argyros College of Business and Economics Undergraduate Programs Special Instructions to Applicants Budget Information Is Federal work-study required?
