JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Director of Global Undergraduate Academic Advising, this position delivers student-focused academic advising to undergraduate students offered on Northeastern network campuses, including identifying students' interests, abilities, and academic goals. Academic Advisors working with undergraduate students attending a Northeastern undergraduate program will be responsible for general program advising across the portfolio of degree programs offered and work in partnership with the advising units from each program's home college on the Boston campus. Academic Advisors assist in identifying struggling or at-risk students including making appropriate referrals to other college resources; schedule building, registration assistance, add/drop or withdrawal assistance, and major declaration; maintain detailed student records; participates in recruitment activities, programs, and initiatives including providing advising information to prospective students and orientation advising; participates in departmental and committee meetings as appropriate for supporting assigned students; develops and coordinates relationships with various offices on campus to better serve students; facilitates multiple sections of the Introduction to College course. The Academic Advisor works to foster a welcoming, nurturing, and inclusive environment for all undergraduate students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and 2-3 years of relevant professional experience required; Master's Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, or other relevant fields preferred; experience working with diverse student populations; excellent oral and written communication skills; understanding of educational requirements and advising processes; demonstrated technology proficiency with various software applications; strong organizational skills; experience working as part of a team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES 1
) Academic Advising and Retention Work in partnership with the academic advising units on the Boston and other global campuses to perform general advising duties and provide academic advising support for the undergraduate student population in alignment with best practices in student support. Use early alert system to track and outreach to at-risk students. Maintain documentation of interactions with students and accurate student records and monitor academic progress. Participate in committees relating to advising. (60%) 2) Teaching Teach sections of Introduction to College. In collaboration with undergraduate academic advising units on the Boston campus, develop new course modules and teaching methods where appropriate. Monitor attendance and grades of all sections, submit progress reports as needed. (25%) 3) Special Projects Take initiative in collaborating with other specific departments/ offices on campus when assigned liaison role, such as the Registrar, the Office of Global Services, and WeCare. Participate in committees relating to advising. Support Admissions efforts and events as needed.
