Working as an integral member of the school's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), this individual will collaborate closely with teachers, school counselors, school psychologists, administrators, and families to design, implement, and monitor targeted interventions that improve student outcomes. The MTSS Intervention Specialist provides evidence-based Tier II and Tier III interventions based on identified student needs. While the current assignment focuses on providing targeted literacy interventions for students requiring additional reading support, the successful candidate will also have the flexibility to support interventions in other areas of need, including executive functioning, academic engagement, attendance, organization, study skills, and social-emotional/behavioral development. As students' needs and the MTSS framework evolve, the specific focus of this position may shift to best support the school's comprehensive intervention program. The ideal candidate is a skilled relationship-builder who believes that meaningful connections with students are foundational to successful intervention. They are comfortable working with students individually and in small groups, analyzing student data to inform instruction, monitoring progress, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and adjusting interventions to maximize student growth. A commitment to evidence-based practices, continuous improvement, and collaboration is essential. Essential Responsibilities Provide targeted Tier II and Tier III interventions aligned to identified student needs within the school's MTSS framework. Deliver evidence-based literacy interventions, as well as interventions targeting executive functioning, attendance, organization, study skills, academic engagement, and social-emotional/behavioral skills, as determined by student and school needs. Utilize screening, diagnostic, and progress-monitoring data to identify students requiring intervention and evaluate the effectiveness of supports. Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, school counselors, school psychologists, administrators, and families to develop and implement intervention plans. Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate intervention outcomes to relevant stakeholders. Participate actively in MTSS meetings, problem-solving teams, and data review processes. Foster positive, supportive relationships that promote student engagement, resilience, confidence, and independence. Remain current with research-based intervention practices and contribute to the continued development of East Lyme High School's MTSS framework. Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or designee. Qualifications Appropriate Connecticut certification is required for the assigned responsibilities. Connecticut #102 (Remedial Reading and Remedial Language Arts) certification is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based intervention strategies and progress-monitoring practices. Experience collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. A demonstrated commitment to building positive relationships with students and supporting the success of all learners.
