Description General Description :
The CFK School Counselor serves as a leader within the Academy through monitoring and implementing school-wide instructional goals. The School Counselor plays a critical role in the support of student placement and credit tracking, ensuring students are served appropriately based on their unique needs. The School Counselor works closely with students to identify and address mental health, emotional, and behavioral needs. The School Counselor will meet regularly with students, parents, and teachers to drive student success and address early intervention needs. The School Counselor will report to the CFK Academy Principal and Vice President, Secondary. Education.
Examples of Duties Essential Job Duties:
Lead tracking and review of student credit and grades to ensure they are on track for graduation. Oversee the student-centered process of planning for graduation. Lead preventative and awareness training for students related to suicide prevention, career counseling, etc. Work closely with students and create a safe space for students to share mental health and emotional concerns and issues. Identify and address mental health, emotional, and behavior student needs. Counsel students on appropriate behavior, anger management, stress management, etc. Incorporate information regarding requirements for Bright Futures Scholarships and support for students into school counseling and community service activities. Conduct entrance interviews with students and parents to explain the curriculum and graduation requirements and begin the program planning process, which includes the process of awarding credit to students transferring from other counties. Review available records, including prior academic records from another country or school system; interview students and parents regarding former schooling and achievement; subject area testing; age/grade appropriateness; social/emotional history and records; and other criteria deemed appropriate. Use diagnostic/placement tests as needed to ensure appropriate course scheduling. Create Student English Language Learners (ELL) plans consistent with the student's current language proficiency level and provide updates in response to annual reevaluations. Serve as a member of the ELL committee to guide the school's ELL program. Work closely with students and parents to ensure appropriate class placement, considering relevant state standardized assessments, achievement in coursework and classwork assessments, and student performance and motivation. Place students with disabilities in appropriate courses as dictated by the course of study described within their individual education plan (IEP). Work with ESE teachers and the CFK Academy Principal and Vice President to ensure reasonable and effective schedules are developed to support inclusive programs serving the academic and behavioral needs of students with disabilities within the general education setting. In collaboration with leadership, review course offerings and adjust as appropriate to support the mission and vision of the school and the students who enroll while continuing to ensure graduation requirements are met. As a member of the leadership team, monitor school-wide instructional goals and develop action plans to correct deficiencies in pedagogy and student learning, assess the effectiveness of instruction and use data to inform curricular decisions and identify professional development, training, and support needed by teachers. Manage early warning system (EWS) and facilitate meetings with the student who receive D or F grades. Meetings will include the teacher and a school administrator and will assist students and teachers in finding success. Contribute to alternative validation of students without official transcripts and home education students as needed. Participate in the CFK Academy threat assessment team. Support student safety by assisting in intervention of mental health crises. Required to attend CFK Academy graduation and one CFK commencement. Other related duties assigned. Qualifications Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Understanding of the principles, philosophy, organization, and administration of secondary school guidance counseling. Knowledge of student appraisal including administration and interpretation of standardized tests. Knowledge of counseling theory and techniques. Effective educational and career advisement skills Ability to work with students of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Ability to work with students with unique abilities and learning differences. Ability to develop and present educational programs. Ability to handle confidential matters judiciously. Understanding of, and commitment to Equal Access/Equal Opportunity Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of College mission, policies, procedures, and services.
Education and Qualifications:
Master's Degree in field or related field, required. (A comparable amount of training, education, or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to sit, use manual dexterity, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and lift up to 10 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to stand, and walk, and lift up to 20 pounds.
