SEPA serves a diverse student population that includes college-bound students, student-athletes, and international students. Because of the unique nature of our school, this position extends beyond traditional school counseling. The ideal candidate must be comfortable managing graduation planning, college admissions, NCAA eligibility, standardized testing, scholarships and financial aid, international academic records, and individualized student support. We are looking for someone who can guide students from enrollment through graduation and help ensure that every student has a clear academic and postsecondary plan. Key Responsibilities Provide academic, college, career, and personal guidance to high school students. Conduct transcript and graduation audits and monitor students' progress toward graduation. Develop individualized four-year academic plans and assist with course selection and scheduling. Conduct regular counseling meetings with juniors and seniors to monitor college and career readiness. Guide seniors through the complete college application process, including Common App, essays, recommendations, transcripts, deadlines, and enrollment requirements. Assist students and families with FAFSA, scholarships, Bright Futures, financial aid, and other college-funding opportunities. Coordinate and support SAT, ACT, CLT, AP, and other standardized testing processes. Maintain accurate counseling documentation, student records, meeting notes, and parent communications. Identify students experiencing academic difficulties and coordinate intervention plans with teachers, administration, students, and families. Work collaboratively with administration and teachers regarding accommodations, academic support, behavioral concerns, MTSS/intervention needs, and student success plans. Communicate regularly with parents regarding academic progress, graduation requirements, college planning, and student concerns. Maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable school policies and student-record requirements. NCAA & Student-Athlete Responsibilities Because athletics are an important component of SEPA's student population, candidates must be familiar with NCAA eligibility requirements and the NCAA Eligibility Center. The counselor will assist student-athletes and families with academic eligibility planning, approved/core coursework, transcript review, registration and documentation, college recruiting preparation, and communication regarding NCAA requirements. Experience working with NCAA Division I and Division II prospective student-athletes is strongly preferred. Familiarity with NAIA eligibility is an additional advantage. International Student & Foreign Transcript Experience SEPA serves students from the United States and around the world. Candidates should have experience with—or demonstrate strong competency in—reviewing international transcripts and academic records. Responsibilities may include evaluating foreign coursework for appropriate U.S. placement and transfer credit, reviewing international grading systems and course sequences, identifying missing graduation requirements, and developing appropriate academic plans. The counselor will work closely with school administration regarding international students. Knowledge of F-1 international student education and SEVIS-related academic considerations is highly desirable. Qualifications The successful candidate should have experience working with middle/high school students and demonstrate excellent organization, communication, judgment, confidentiality, and attention to detail. A bachelor's degree is required; a master's degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field is preferred. School counseling certification is preferred. Strong preference will be given to candidates with experience in several of the following areas: high school guidance counseling, NCAA eligibility, college admissions, international transcript evaluation, graduation audits, standardized testing, scholarships/financial aid, student-athlete advising, accommodations/intervention planning, and working with culturally diverse or international students. The Candidate We Are Looking For SEPA needs more than someone who simply manages schedules. We are looking for a counselor who will know our students, monitor their progress, communicate proactively with families, and take ownership of the college and career readiness process. The ideal candidate is compassionate but accountable, highly organized, comfortable managing multiple deadlines, proactive rather than reactive, and committed to helping students succeed both academically and personally. Join Southeastern Preparatory Academy and help our students build a pathway from high school to college, athletics, careers, and future success.
