School Counselor (Immediate, Part-Time)

Job Description

Friends Academy seeks a passionate, positive, and compassionate School Counselor . This part-time position reports to the Director of Student Life. The School Counselor supports the social and emotional needs of students and families from early childhood through Grade 8. The School Counselor will work collaboratively with teachers and staff to respond to individual and grade level social and emotional needs. The counselor will help evaluate student social-emotional needs and provide short term counseling in order to determine appropriate support recommendations. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Demonstrate a strong commitment to, belief in, and alignment with FA's mission and values Work in partnership with the student support team Evaluate students identified as needing social or emotional support Maintain positive communication with families and colleagues Provide individual or small group, short-term guidance Help students understand and manage their emotions and strengthen interpersonal skills Create support plans and recommend classroom accommodations Make recommendations and referrals for outside mental health professionals as needed Relentlessly sunny outlook on the world and opportunities for young people Desire to contribute to something larger than oneself and a deep-seated belief in the power of teamwork Commitment to ongoing professional growth
Qualifications:
Graduate Degree in school counseling, social work, or related field required Experience working with children as a counselor or therapist Track record of handling confidential information with discretion and care Commitment to teaching and learning in a vigorous progressive school community with a commitment to equity and inclusion. The salary will be commensurate with experience and dependent upon the number of hours per week with a range of $12,000 to $35,000.
