Aug 31, 2026 Job Description Academic Center Teachers partner with students to develop skills, behaviors, and habits that contribute to success at St. Mary's School. As part of the Center for Academic Excellence, the Academic Center Teacher works one on one or with small groups of students to develop and refine skills such as goal setting, organizing, prioritizing, planning, starting a task and seeing it through to completion, self regulation, self monitoring, emotional regulation, self advocacy, breaking down assignments into manageable chunks, calendar planning, balancing academic/extracurricular demands, and preparing for college.
Duties:
  • Support student growth by fostering academic persistence. This is achieved by helping students develop strong time management skills, forming productive habits, creating and maintaining an organizational system, developing strong study skills, and improving stress management.
  • Conduct individualized meetings with students that assess performance and develop academic success plans.
  • Guide students in developing self-efficacy by identifying and overcoming obstacles that may interfere with academic success.
  • Facilitate students to practice self-regulation and take responsibility for their academic success.
  • Maintain data pertaining to the program.
Qualifications:
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Elementary or Secondary education
Knowledge:
  • Academic Coaching, instructional, and mentoring techniques
  • Processes and resources for organizing and leading small groups and individual meetings
  • Trends, issues, and best practices relevant to the position
Skills:
  • Candidates must have strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Candidates must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Google Suite
Abilities:
  • Balance multiple demands and effectively organize and manage time and tasks
  • Effectively communicate with faculty, administrators, and parents
