Position Details Job Summary:

University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy is seeking an outstanding full-time School Counselor. This position will predominantly work with Academy students (grades 7-8) while also supporting high school students as needed/required. Candidates should desire to provide all students with equitable access to a quality and developmentally appropriate and comprehensive guidance counseling program that focuses on academic success and social development. School counselors are required to develop a healthy integration between self and self-concept, and grow mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and socially. As the primary counselor for the Jesuit Academy, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to follow the Jesuit/Ignatian mandate of creating methods that will assist in forming students into persons who seek justice with the focus of forming men for others.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

Master's degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, or related field Valid school counseling license/certification (e.g., Michigan Teaching Certificate with a Guidance Counselor [NT] Endorsement, School Guidance Counselor License issued by the Michigan Department of Education [MDE]). Minimum of three years' experience in a middle or high school setting. Ability to build trusting relationships with students, parents, faculty, and staff. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal abilities; strong collaboration skills. Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional discretion. Experience with student support plans, behavioral interventions, and crisis response. Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and student information systems. Strong skills in counseling techniques, group facilitation, and crisis management. Commitment to student success and wellbeing. Willingness to complete background checks/fingerprinting.

Areas of Concentration:

A. Individual and Group Counseling Meet with students (predominantly academy) on a regular basis to monitor their personal, social, and academic development. Work to establish harmonious relationships with students, teachers, and parents so that they will feel free to bring their problems for discussion. Advocate for students

Collaborate with the Assistant Principal for the Jesuit Academy in course selection When needed, refer students of concern to Assistant Principal for the Jesuit When needed, refer students of concern for assessment or treatment or both; follow-up with outside specialists/programs; update the administration team. B. Meeting and Speaking with Parents in the Role of Student Advocate Initiating contact with parents/guardians surrounding concerns and problem behavior of students. Assessing social/emotional issues with parents/guardians. Meeting and speaking with parents/guardians surrounding their expressed concerns about their Providing clarity and reasoning for student behavior at the middle school stage in C. Behavior Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM): Serve as a member of the school's multidisciplinary Behavior Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM) Team by identifying, assessing, and responding to students exhibiting concerning behaviors. Collaborate with administrators, faculty/staff, families, and community partners to develop intervention, support, and safety plans using a prevention-focused, trauma-informed and student-centered approach. Collaborating with Director of School Counseling Attend regular faculty meetings with the Counseling Department Chair and other Works with Counseling Department Chair to plan, interpret, evaluate, and when necessary, revise the counseling program to meet the needs of the entire school. Physical Working Conditions:

Must be able to lift light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (10 to 20 pounds). Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing.
