Job Description
11-month position
•$6,000 Signing Bonus for Licensed and Experienced High School Counselor Candidate
7 percent supplement and performance bonus of 0 to 6 percent
Additional Supplement for Teachers and Licensed Instructional Support ($2,530 in 2026-2027), subject to continued funding from PRC 071 funds.

School Counselor
Manages student 504 plans and meetings in accordance in with federal law and OPS 504 Handbook
Provides direct support service to individual students, small groups, and classrooms
Completes assessments, referrals, and counseling with students and families
Creates student schedules in conjunction with school leadership
Monitors individual student progress towards promotion & graduation
Ensures accuracy of transfer records and transcripts
Leads maintenance of student cumulative folders and distribution of report cards
Develop and maintain a comprehensive school counseling program and plan
Support the transitions of new students to the school
Support the transitions from Lower School to Upper School
Connect community resources and programs to students/parents to meet individualized student needs
Supports the efforts of students applying to colleges/universities (Upper School)
Builds relationships and awareness with colleges/universities in region and beyond (Upper School)
Plans OPS group college campus visits for all grade levels (Upper School)
Develops and delivers curriculum for senior seminar and junior seminar courses (Upper School)
Helps seniors to understand and decide among their financial aid packages in April (Upper School)
Meets with students and parents during the college advising process (Upper School)
Works directly with Vance-Granville Community College liaison regarding academic performance alerts, communications with instructors, student academic grievances, and the scheduling of OPS sections of CCP courses (Upper School)
Provides support to students who are struggling with CCP classes, including Moodle LMS information, myVGCC information, guidance for communications with instructors, and referrals for tutoring. (Upper School)
Job Qualifications
At Oxford Preparatory School (OPS), we believe having a dedicated and well-qualified support staff is paramount to the success of our students. The candidate will be licensed as a school counselor and have a demonstrated record of supporting students in college admissions.
