Job Description

Salary Range:
$60,245 + depending on experience (DOE) Salary Determination Starting salary rates are based on multiples factors which may include the position's major responsibilities, the applicant's background including education, work experience, and key competencies, the university's strategic priorities, internal peer equity and external market analyses, applicable federal, state, and local laws and negotiated labor contracts. Position Summary The Academic Advisor works collaboratively with the Associate Dean of the School of Professional Studies to advance institutional goals related to student success, retention, and persistence. The role provides proactive academic advising through the management of a caseload of students, supporting informed decision-making, academic progress, and successful transitions. As an advocate for students, the Academic Advisor actively contributes to university-wide retention and graduation initiatives and maintains a specific programmatic focus to address the needs of Integrated Studies (IGS) students, Selected Studies students, and other Academic Momentum related initiatives. This position is an 11-month obligation: August 1 to June 30, annually.

Major Responsibilities Academic Advising & Student Success Proactively advise a caseload of Integrated Studies (IGS) and Selected Studies students. Serve as a resource to IGS and Selected Studies students in understanding university policies, procedures, academic requirements, and degree progress to support retention and degree completion. Maintain accurate advising records and communicate proactively with students to support informed decision-making. Support diverse student populations by connecting students with the appropriate resources. Assist students with academic planning, course selection, graduation planning, and completion of university processes and requirements. Interpret and communicate academic policies, procedures, and curriculum requirements to students and other constituents. Academic Planning, Enrollment Analysis & Program Support Collaborate with the Associate Dean of the School of Professional Studies in analyzing enrollment trends, evaluating transfer credits, and supporting IGS and Selected Studies planning activities. Assist with assessment, reporting, and data collection activities to support program improvement and strategic decision-making. Work with Advisement and Transition to evaluate transfer coursework to determine applicability toward degree requirements in accordance with institutional policies and procedures. Collaborate with faculty, academic departments, and student support offices to address student needs and facilitate academic success. Student Retention, Intervention & Case Management Utilize student information systems, degree audit tools, and advising technologies to track student progress, identify at-risk students, and implement timely interventions. Monitor student success indicators and conduct outreach to students experiencing academic, personal, or enrollment-related challenges to promote persistence and retention. Advising Resources & Applied Learning Coordination Create advising materials for IGS and Selected Studies students. Coordinate applied learning experiences for IGS and Selected Studies students to support fulfillment of academic program requirements and achievement of learning outcomes. Functional and Supervisory Relationships Reports directly to the Associate Dean of the School of Professional Studies Works with multiple offices and personnel to support the delivery of IGS and Selected Studies courses Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree. Experience providing academic advising, student support services, student success programming, case management, or related student-centered services. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in higher education, counseling, or related field. One-year professional full-time experience in higher education, preferably in academic advising, student success, or other student support services. Experience utilizing student information systems, degree audit software, case management systems, or early alert technologies. Experience interpreting university policies, transfer credit evaluations, degree requirements, or curriculum information. Experience working with diverse student populations in a college or university setting. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to communicate complex academic information, policies, and procedures clearly and effectively to students, faculty, staff, and other constituents. Ability to use a case-management approach to monitor progress, identify challenges or risk factors, and implement timely outreach and support strategies. Effective interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage students individually and collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus partners. Ability to effectively utilize student information systems, degree audit tools, case management platforms, and other technologies to support advising, documentation, and student success initiatives. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities, programs, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality, and to work collaboratively within a team while advocating student needs within institutional policies. Knowledge of academic advising principles, student development theory, and student success practices. Ability to interpret academic requirements, evaluate information, and assist students in developing academic plans toward degree completion. Ability to analyze student, enrollment, and advising-related data to support recommendations, planning, and continuous improvement efforts. Ability to work effectively across differences and foster inclusive engagement. Ability and willingness to work occasional evening and weekend hours.
