PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The person assigned to this position will be working with at-risk students in an effort to ensure that they fulfill graduation requirements and be able to lead productive lives after graduation.
QUALIFICATIONS
TEA certification requirements High School Graduate or GED, college hours preferred Must have the ability to effectively communicate in both English and Spanish Must have a dependable vehicle and a Texas driver's license Must have the ability to work and communicate effectively with parents, students, community, and staff members Must have a positive attitude towards students and their ability to succeed
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Assist the principals and counselors with attendance, academic, and discipline referrals and follows up on progress made in each area. Make home visits as assigned. Help to support positive attitudes of parent and students towards school. Document and report any home situations that may be contributing to problems being faced at school. Report problems observed in the home to counselor, principal, and/or other support personnel as appropriate. Initiate actions that discourage absenteeism, violations of student code of conduct, and failure in academic areas. Make connection between the school and the home by communicating effectively with counselors and principals. Educate parents on ways in which they can serve and become actively involved in the education of their children. Follow up on progress reports and six week grade reporting information. Make periodical connections/visitations with the teachers as appropriate. Maintain auditable data on the students being served to be used for effective intervention. Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others. Performs other related duties as assigned.
