Qualifications and Requirements:

Masters degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Completion of a state-approved counselor preparation program. Eligibility for the required Virginia school counselor license or endorsement. Understanding of elementary age student needs and effective counseling strategies. Strong communication, organization, and record-keeping skills. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical practice.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide direct academic, social-emotional, and career counseling to elementary students. Assess student concerns, collaborate with school staff, and consult with families as needed. Maintain accurate, confidential student records and support appropriate referrals for services. Monitor and promote students progress in school adjustment and well-being. Proactively participate in school meetings and interdisciplinary teams. Foster a supportive, inclusive, and safe atmosphere for all students.
