#090-CRT-04-26 School Counselor Wenatchee High School 1.0 FTE Continuing Contract Position begins 2026-2027 School Year
DESCRIPTION
This counseling position will be working in our Accelerated Pathway program. The Accelerated Pathway counselor specializes in guiding students through integrated higher education pathways that exist on the WHS campus. In addition to program-specific duties, the counselor is responsible for understanding the unique developmental stages of children at the high school level and upholding the national counseling standards of providing comprehensive guidance for all students, including individual and group counseling, and collaborating with the College & Career Success Team to support social-emotional learning (SEL) and academic progress towards stated goals. Key responsibilities specific to this role include advising students on higher education outcomes such as the Direct Transfer Agreement (DTA) for an Associate of Arts degree, completing Washington State Public University General Education Requirements (GER), completion of various CTE programs of study, or pursuing partial completion of degrees within articulated programs like Engineering Tech, Early Childhood Education, and Business Computer Technology. The counselor also assists students in their post-high school transition to colleges or trade schools and must develop individualized plans that align high school graduation requirements with post-secondary goals. This role requires the ability to work effectively with students of varying socio-economic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds, as well as knowledge of Special Education law and the integration of those needs with the academic program. Furthermore, the counselor is responsible for monitoring requirements for continued enrollment in the Accelerated Pathway program, coordinating support through the Academic Lab/Pathways Center for students needing STEM or writing assistance, and facilitating transitions between the standard HS+ pathway and Accelerated Pathways at semester breaks based on academic performance. Requires supervision of students as needed throughout the school day. Other duties as assigned. As a school counselor, this role will focus on providing services around academic, career, and social/emotional development as outlined by the American School Counselors Association. You will provide direct student services as well as indirect student services, and program placement (Accelerated Pathway or HS/HS+ Pathway) can be re-evaluated as the needs change.
QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Washington State Education Staff Associate Certificate with counseling endorsement. Experience with high school classroom, group, and individual counseling preferred. Ability to work as a team player and build strong working relationships with staff and students. Commitment to the WSD comprehensive guidance and counseling plan. Knowledge of
OSPI SEL
State Standards and Benchmarks, Knowledge of state & school graduation requirements, and graduation pathway requirements. Knowledge of Special Education law, regulations, and integration needs with the school's academic program. Knowledge of trauma-informed practices & supports. Knowledge & relationships with mental health & resource agencies. Knowledge of computer scheduling and knowledge of the Skyward system are preferred. Must pursue outlets for his/her own mental health and well-being. Ability to manage standardized testing and be familiar with school counseling. Bilingual (English/ Spanish) preferred. Attendance and punctuality are important functions of this position.
