Vocational Services Department Reports to: Program Coordinator Requirements The minimum education level for this position is a High School diploma or GED certificate. A valid driver license is required. Background and/or experience in hands-on training of individuals with special needs is preferred. Must be willing to work non-standard hours such as evenings, weekends or holidays if required to assist client.
Summary :
Under direction of the Program Coordinator, an employment specialist reviews client files, schedules interviews and/or meetings with clients, and assists clients in the search, application, and obtainment of employment. Must demonstrate writing, speaking, listening, planning, implementation and coordination of rehabilitation program. Must be able to advocate with potential employers for assigned clients and determine through various processes the expected performance for work of each client. Must have ability to instruct and communicate individually with each client in various job settings. Must confer with client, employers and counselors on behavioral problems, misconduct or poor job performance. Must possess the ability to travel independently.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Assign daily activities that are in keeping with the client's individualized employment plan.
- Specifically responsible for development and implementation of Job Readiness Training through instruction and vocational counseling to prepare clients for job seeking and job retention abilities.
- Responsible for recording daily observations of clients and for writing monthly and final reports.
- Attend and participate in case conferences, staff meetings and client planning sessions.
- Adhere to and enforce policies and standards adopted by the Administrator and governing body.
- Evaluate client's vocational potential in actual work settings.
- Assist in job placement for clients when possible.
- Provide individualized training for clients at work site.
- Assume other responsibilities as designated by the supervisor which are responsible, appropriate and within the framework of rendering direct or indirect vocational services to clients.
- Computer/Technology Skills Must be computer literate including the use of Microsoft Office and other software as needed.
