Job Description

Employment Specialist The Arc of Jackson County is seeking a dependable, compassionate Employment Specialist to help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities obtain and maintain meaningful employment in the community.
Pay:
$14.06-$16 per hour, negotiable based on experience
Schedule:
37.5 hours per week Key Responsibilities Assist individuals with career exploration, employment planning, job searches, applications, interviews, and workplace preparation. Build relationships with local employers and identify competitive employment opportunities. Conduct situational assessments and discovery activities to identify each person's strengths, interests, abilities, and support needs. Provide individualized job coaching and workplace training using the least intrusive support necessary. Help individuals learn job duties, improve productivity, develop appropriate workplace behaviors, and build natural supports with supervisors and coworkers. Provide ongoing follow-up and long-term support to help individuals maintain successful employment. Communicate with individuals, families, employers, rehabilitation counselors, and other service providers. Assist with resolving workplace concerns and serve as a liaison between the employee and employer when needed. Coordinate or assist with transportation to interviews, job sites, and other employment-related activities. Complete required documentation and reports accurately and on time. Protect confidential information and follow agency policies, funding-source requirements, and applicable privacy standards. Qualifications Must be at least 21 years old. High school diploma or equivalent required; a degree in a related field is preferred but not required. Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, supported employment, human services, or a similar field is strongly preferred. Sales, marketing, recruiting, or employer-relations experience is a plus. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be comfortable working independently and in a variety of settings, including businesses, job sites, private homes, and community locations. Must have basic computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and database entry. Must have a valid Alabama driver's license, an acceptable driving record, reliable transportation, and required automobile insurance. Must successfully complete required background checks and drug screening. Must be able to obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certification; training will be provided. Must be able to perform the physical duties of the position, including standing, sitting, bending, stooping, reaching, grasping, and lifting. Schedule Requirements Work hours are based on the needs of the individuals served and their employers. Applicants must be able to maintain a flexible schedule, which may occasionally include early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays.
