Desert Survivors is a native plant nursery that employs individuals with developmental disabilities who may need some support. We are looking for someone who values our mission of serving both plants and people. The Job Coach mentors our supported employees while they run one of the retail or landscaping ventures at our plant nursery. Qualifications:

High School Diploma or G.E.D Physically able to lift 50 lbs. & bend and stretch The ability to work outside in a desert climate Arizona driver's license and safe driving record, ability to pass a criminal background check and obtain a Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card. This position is under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, and it is hourly and full-time. All newly hired employees will have a 90-day probationary period to ensure the position is a good fit.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience providing direct care services or personal lived experience with people with I/DD and/or significant mental illness. Bachelor's degree in psychology or closely related field, experience providing supported employment, landscaping or plant nursery skills, bilingual English/Spanish or ASL. Previous work experience in landscaping or agriculture or a sincere interest as a layperson. Competent writing and basic computer skills. Article 9, First Aid/ CPR & P.R.O.U.

D Training Primary Duties:

Provide direct support services to small groups of Supported Employees while they work at the Desert Survivors Native Plant Nursery and in the community. This includes demonstrating and overseeing the correct use of all necessary tools, facilitating the development of employment related soft skills, supervising all crew members, and creating adaptations that allow ALL participants to experience ALL job tasks. Familiarize yourself with the support needs and service goals of all Supported Employees on your work crew. Work in partnership with the Supported Employees on your crew, modeling tasks and behavior, giving instruction, and positive reinforcement. You are the team lead. Help Supported Employees build skills and become more independent in workplace tasks. Consistently demonstrate a positive attitude, particularly in the face of negative behavior. Interact with intention and be mindful of your body language and words. Building participant self-esteem and a sense of accomplishment is as important as learning a particular task. Complete the required reporting documentation (daily and monthly) for all Supported Employees on your work crew. Remain current on all required training and certifications. Maintain flow of communication between the Supported Employee's families or home staff and Desert Survivors' managers.

Secondary Duties:

Attend scheduled staff meetings and internal professional development opportunities as assigned. ALWAYS carry a radio for communication. Amplify the voices of the Supported Employees on your work crew when they are self-advocating. This may include conveying information to their caregivers or the Desert Survivors managers, supporting them in preparing for service team meetings, or suggesting strategies for effective assertive communication. Educate yourself on the civil rights of the population you serve, ask questions, and endeavor to always conduct yourself as an ally. When necessary, provide personal attendant care for Supported Employees as assigned. Maintain situational awareness and work in close partnership with your fellow Job Coaches to ensure the safety of all Supported Employees. We are mandatory reporters of abuse and neglect. You are expected to discuss any suspicions with a manager and assist with the completion of any incident reports.

Pay:

$17.00 - $18.50 per hour
