Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer/ ED, and under the direct supervision of the APR & Data Specialist/ Project Director, provides counseling, advising, and direct services to TRIO participants while leading student outreach, recruitment, engagement, and community partnership efforts. This position also serves as a key point of connection between the program, schools, families, community organizations, and other partners to strengthen student engagement and support the program's goals and objectives.
Vision:
The coordinator will help create a connected, accessible, and community-centered approach to student services, ensuring that Wahupa remains engaged with students and the communities it serves even as programming expands. This position will strengthen the bridge between students, families, schools, community partners, and TRIO services by creating meaningful opportunities and participating in collective programming.
Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day individual, small-group, and large-group support to TRIO participants related to academic success, college and career exploration, financial aid, postsecondary planning, and other student needs. Support the achievement of annual program objectives and performance measures by providing services and completing assigned activities that contribute to required grant goals, student outcomes, and program percentages. Monitor student progress toward required program outcomes; including, but not limited to financial aid applications, postsecondary applications and enrollment, rigorous programs of study, secondary school completion, and year-to-year student progression, and communicate concerns or gaps to program leadership. Contribute to required program reporting and accountability, including the collection and documentation of information used for Annual Performance Reports (APRs), audits and other reports required by the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Labor, and applicable funding agencies, in accordance with grant requirements and funding regulations. Coordinate student recruitment and outreach efforts to identify, engage, and enroll eligible participants while supporting the program in meeting established participation and enrollment goals. Develop and maintain positive relationships with school personnel, community organizations, parents/guardians, colleges, and other external partners to strengthen student support and expand access to program resources. Serve as a primary outreach contact for assigned schools, communities, or partner organizations, maintaining regular communication and identifying opportunities for collaboration, referrals, presentations, and student engagement. Coordinate and participate in collective program activities and events, including college and career events, workshops, campus visits, parent programs, community events, recruitment activities, and other large-scale student services. Monitor student engagement and participation and conduct proactive outreach to students who may be disengaged, require additional support, or would benefit from additional program services or community resources. Collaborate with leadership and all other Wahupa staff to identify student needs, strengthen outreach strategies, document services, and ensure program activities support grant goals, objectives, and organizational priorities. Ability to:
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, parents/guardians, school personnel, community partners, colleges, and other stakeholders. Effectively engage and motivate students from low-income, first-generation, and diverse backgrounds to participate in TRIO services and pursue postsecondary opportunities. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, when conducting individual advising, presentations, workshops, recruitment activities, and professional communications with partners. Organize and coordinate multiple outreach activities, events, and student services while effectively managing competing priorities and deadlines. Identify student needs and connect participants with appropriate resources, including academic, financial aid, college access, career, and community-based services. Work collaboratively as part of a collective service model, sharing responsibility for student services and contributing to program-wide events and initiatives. Work independently and exercise sound judgment while maintaining confidentiality, accurate participant documentation, professional relationships, and compliance with TRIO program requirements and organizational policies. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social work, higher education administration, or a related field. Two (2) or more years of professional experience working with low-income, first-generation, or historically underserved students, preferably in TRIO or a similar college-access program. Experience providing academic, college, career, financial aid, or postsecondary advising to students. Experience developing and maintaining positive relationships with schools, parents/guardians, community organizations, colleges, and other stakeholders. Knowledge of student recruitment, outreach, retention, and engagement strategies. Ability to relate effectively to students and families from diverse cultural, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Office 365, databases, email, calendars, and other technology used to document and coordinate student services. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for workshops, college visits, field trips, community events, and other program activities. Reliable transportation and ability to travel between schools, community locations, program events, and organizational activities as required. Must pass a background check and TB test. Effective time management and work scope prioritization with a high level of confidentiality. Must be familiar with TRIO regulations, Federal/State law, and FERPA regulations.
