Full Job Description Summary:
The Natural Helper Coordinator supports the integration of Native American cultural values and traditional practices within the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) program. This role assists in coordinating and documenting cultural activities such as the Red Road Group, Sweat Lodge Ceremony, and Drumming sessions. The position also supports youth engagement and promotes cultural sensitivity among staff and participants, ensuring that traditional healing practices are respectfully incorporated into the program's overall treatment framework. Hours are 3pm - 12am Monday - Friday. Primary Responsibilities 1. Coordinate the scheduling and logistics of weekly Red Road Group, Sweat Lodge Ceremony, and Drumming sessions, ensuring consistent facilitation and smooth delivery. 2. Maintain a contact list of traditional healers, elders, and cultural practitioners to provide additional support and guidance to program participants. 3. Assist in educating traditional practitioners on HIPAA regulations and ethical guidelines relevant to client interactions and confidentiality. 4. Support the development and delivery of cultural sensitivity orientations and training sessions for staff and residents, ensuring understanding of appropriate behavior and etiquette during ceremonies. 5. Document participation and outcomes from group and individual traditional healing sessions, maintaining secure and accurate records in accordance with confidentiality and organizational policies. 6. Assist in outreach and relationship-building efforts with local Native American communities to strengthen collaboration and promote shared cultural initiatives. 7. Provide input on cultural integration efforts by communicating feedback from participants and community members to the Clinical Director. 8. Collaborate with program leadership and the fiscal team by providing logistical and informational support for grants and cultural preservation initiatives. 9. Support the youth program by assisting with activities that teach and promote traditional Native American values, helping to strengthen cultural identity and awareness among youth. 10. Assist with organizing cultural immersion experiences, educational workshops, and community events, supporting all setup, coordination, and communication needs. Personal and Professional Qualifications 1. In-depth knowledge and understanding of Native American culture, traditions, and values. 2. GED or High School diploma with some college courses preferred. 3. Experience in program management, particularly in coordinating cultural ceremonies and events within the community. 4. Experience working in a substance use disorder (SUD) treatment setting or familiarity with the specific challenges and dynamics of supporting individuals in recovery within a culturally sensitive framework. 5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to bridge cultural gaps and connect with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. 6. Prior experience working with youth and a demonstrated commitment to youth development through cultural engagement. 7. Knowledge of relevant regulations, including HIPAA and other ethical standards. 8. Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborating with diverse groups and individuals. 9. If in recovery, three (3) or more years' sobriety required. 10. Must meet standards of character under PL 101-630, section 408, Character Investigation, subsection (a) and PL 101-647, section 231, Requirement for Background Check, subsection (c), and agree that employer can contact the last two employers, the sex abuse detective division of local law enforcement and Child Protective Services of the last two counties in which the person has lived or worked to inquire as to the suitability of the person to work with children. 11.
