COLLEGE AND CAREER COACH
Supervised by: Project Director Job Purpose The purpose of this job is to provide support and guidance to Shore Way to College students at the target schools to increase their college awareness, academic preparedness and ultimately, college access, by helping them create individualized college and career plans and paths. This position works closely with the school guidance counselor for on-site guidance. Duties and Responsibilities Part-time employment serving as a College and Career Coach for It Takes a Village to Help Our Children, Inc. to support their Next Generation Scholars' Shore Way to College Program. The College and Career Coach is responsible for working closely with the school guidance counselor to provide college information and support to Shore Way to College students at their assigned location, which may be Crisfield High School or Washington High School. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Serve as a role model for all Shore Way to College eligible students Work with Shore Way to College students in creating detailed college and career plans Maintain a roster of all eligible Shore Way to College program participants at your location Work closely with guidance counselor to schedule meeting times with Shore Way to College students Meet with Shore Way to College student to help them set goals, research colleges, careers and employment, learning opportunities Assist Shore Way to College students in completing and understanding career assessments Assist Shore Way to College students in aligning course selection with college and career goals Assist Shore Way to College students in understanding the importance of academic rigor Meet with Shore Way to College students to review grades and progress reports in core subject areas Coordinate with Shore Way to College tutors to refer students, as needed, to increase academic achievement in core subject areas Coordinate with Project Director to provide information to students on all Shore Way to College program activities Work with students to ensure maximum participation in Shore Way to College activities Maintain documentation, including a sign in sheet and daily activity log of all support provided to Shore Way to College students Assist Project Director or School Administrators in coordinating/implementing Shore Way to College activities, as needed Maintain a professional demeanor, in attitude and dress, at all times
Qualifications Education Requirement:
This position requires a high school diploma, some college, and at least 1 years' experience working with youth in a structured environment
Additional Requirements:
Successful candidate will possess the skills listed below and will be motivated and dependable with a positive attitude and is able to engage and inspire students.
They will have:
Good oral and written communication skills Good organization and planning skills Strong interest in career planning and preparation Ability to use technology and social media proficiently to support and engage students Proficient knowledge of computer software, such as, Microsoft Office products, i.e. Word, Excel, etc. College Degree is preferred, but not required Experience working with challenged or at-risk students in a diverse population setting is a plus. Special Requirements Drug screening may also be required.
