Externship Coordinator
Position Summary
The Externship Coordinator manages the externship experience for students, serving as the primary point of contact between students, externship sites, and the school. This position develops and maintains strong employer relationships, coordinates student placements, monitors progress and attendance, and ensures externship activities meet institutional and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Develop and maintain relationships with current and prospective externship/clinical sites. Coordinate student externship placements, orientations, schedules, agreements, and required documentation. Ensure eligible students begin and complete externships according to established timelines. Conduct regular communication and site visits to support positive relationships and successful student experiences. Monitor student attendance, performance, and progress throughout the externship and address concerns promptly. Collect and maintain student timecards, evaluations, surveys, and other required documentation. Provide appropriate support and guidance to students regarding professionalism, workplace expectations, interviewing, resumes, and career readiness. Work closely with the Director of Career Services to identify employment opportunities and support successful job placement. Maintain accurate externship records in institutional systems and student files. Ensure externship activities comply with school policies, state requirements, accreditation standards, and Education Affiliates guidelines. Identify new externship opportunities through employer outreach, networking, community involvement, job fairs, and other activities. Assist with employer events, open houses, advisory committees, and other activities that strengthen community and employer partnerships. Participate in staff and faculty meetings, student activities, and other school events as needed. Collaborate with campus leadership, faculty, admissions, career services, and other departments to support student success. Promote a professional, respectful, and supportive environment for students, staff, faculty, and externship partners. Perform other duties as assigned. Skills, Qualifications & Competencies Minimum of three years of related professional experience; experience in education, career services, healthcare, or employer relations preferred. An appropriate college degree may be substituted for related work experience. Strong communication, organization, relationship-building, and follow-up skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computerized data management systems. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines. Professional demeanor and ability to work effectively with students, employers, faculty, and staff. Position Details
