Homeownership Educator & Counselor Part-Time, approximately 20-25 hours per week York County Community Action Corporation is seeking a Homeownership Educator & Counselor to join our Economic Opportunity & Housing Stability team. This position provides homebuyer education, individualized housing counseling, and financial education to residents of York County. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys helping people navigate complex financial and housing decisions and can make information approachable, practical, and empowering. In this role, you will help individuals and families build financial readiness, understand their homeownership options, overcome barriers, and take meaningful steps toward successful, sustainable homeownership.
Your Role:
Lead homebuyer education classes by coordinating schedules and registration, communicating with participants, delivering curriculum, coordinating guest speakers, and completing activities required by MaineHousing, hoMEworks, and other applicable programs. Provide individualized pre- and post-purchase counseling to help participants strengthen financial readiness, understand financing and homeownership options, address barriers, create action plans, and achieve their housing goals. Build strong community partnerships with class sponsors, guest speakers, instructors, and other program partners, while helping identify and engage new partners. Support program billing and revenue tracking by maintaining accurate attendance and service records, providing documentation for invoicing, monitoring payments and revenue as assigned, and coordinating with Fiscal and program leadership. Help participants navigate technology and online resources , including applications, portals, electronic documents, virtual services, and other digital tools used throughout the homebuying and homeownership process.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent, plus relevant professional experience in homebuyer education, housing counseling, banking, mortgage lending, real estate, financial services, housing construction or rehabilitation, adult education, community services, or a related field. Experience providing education, counseling, coaching, customer service, or other direct support to clients or consumers. Ability to obtain and maintain required HUD, hoMEworks, and other applicable program certifications within established timeframes. Must not have an active record on the System for Award Management (SAM) website.
