GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY
The Career Navigator focuses on training, developing, and increasing the employment outcomes of homeless or at risk of homeless veterans through the coordination of job training opportunities, workforce development and employment opportunities. The Career Navigator is responsible for assisting individuals in their career development. This includes providing resources and support to help people explore their career options, develop resumes and cover letters, prepare for job interviews, and identify employment opportunities. The Career Navigator will provide services to participants to help them make informed decisions about their career paths and employment goal. This position requires strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the job market, as well as experience working with diverse populations. The Career Navigator provides direct services to the HVRP Program participants in conjunction with partnering agencies, adhering to Easterseals, Inc. and
DOL-VETS
Grant guidelines. The Career Navigator will help veteran jobseekers best identify and pursue career goals. They will provide guidance on training and career options, help with job searches, and provide resources and advice for achieving a successful career. Additionally, the Career Navigator will offer support to individuals who are transitioning into new roles and industries.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following core responsibilities define this role. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. Participant Support & Career Development Conduct initial screenings to assess veterans' employment needs and barriers. Assist veterans with job searching skills such as resume building, cover letters, interview preparation, job searches, and applications. Facilitate connections to training, employment programs, and community resources. Provide career counseling and advocate for veterans in employment and training opportunities. Support program eligibility determination, intake, and enrollment as needed. Create and distribute job leads, announcements, and resources to participants weekly. Employer Engagement & Job Placement Build and maintain relationships with employers, promoting veteran hiring initiatives. Collaborate with WorkSource Oregon, WIOA providers, Local Workforce Boards, and DVOP partners to identify job opportunities. Promote On-the-Job Training (OJT) to employers and coordinate training opportunities. Conduct post-placement follow-ups with employers and veterans to ensure job retention and satisfaction. Data Management & Compliance Maintain accurate case files, documenting training and employment services in compliance with DOL-VETS and Easterseals Oregon guidelines. Record participant services and case notes in Salesforce and VGRS. Track employment outcomes, conduct retention calls, and obtain proof of employment. Participate in
DOL-VETS
meetings, conference calls, and professional development activities. Handle confidential and sensitive information with the utmost discretion. Maintaining confidentiality is a must.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in human development or social services, psychology, or a related field, or a minimum of 3 years of workforce development/case management experience preferred. Excellent listening and advising skills. Strong ability to motivate and develop others. Organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficiency in using technology for communication and research purposes. Must have the ability to work well with all levels of the organization and individuals with multiple barriers. Must be able to handle assignments quickly and efficiently, meet deadlines, and handle confidential matters in a mature and responsible manner. Must demonstrate initiative, motivation and excellent communication skills. Working knowledge of career planning. Experience in coaching individuals with barriers to employment. Experience working with veterans or individuals with disabilities. Ability to use technology for career development tools, and DOL systems reporting. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, and the Internet.
