Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract A school district in Montoursville, PA is seeking an Orientation and Mobility Specialist for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year. This contract role focuses on supporting visually impaired students in their educational setting through specialized mobility and orientation services that promote independence and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Participate in referral and assessment processes for visually impaired students. Conduct thorough evaluations covering concept development, environmental orientation, safe travel techniques, sensory development, self-advocacy, and use of low vision devices. Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEP/IFSP) with O&M goals tailored to student needs. Provide direct instruction and consultation for students, staff, peers, and community members. Manage orders and maintenance of canes and low-vision travel devices. Monitor student progress using ongoing criterion-based assessments and maintain detailed documentation. Collaborate with school personnel regarding safe and efficient environmental design. Conduct in-service training for educators, families, and community groups. Maintain a valid state driver's license with the ability to drive as needed.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility. Current Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) credential through ACVREP. Proven ability to develop and implement instructional plans for students with visual impairments. Strong consultative skills with educators and families. Commitment to facilitating independence and safety for visually impaired students.
