Job Description

About the Position The Opportunity Club is seeking an outgoing, organized, persistent, and creative Job Developer / Job Coach to help adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities find, learn, and maintain meaningful employment in their communities. This isn't a traditional desk job. One part of your day may involve meeting with a client to identify employment goals. Another may involve contacting businesses, visiting employers, helping complete applications, preparing someone for an interview, supporting a new employee during their first shift, communicating with a support team, and completing the documentation associated with those services. Successful Employment Professionals are comfortable balancing relationship-building, advocacy, problem-solving, community work, and paperwork. We want YOU. We want to recognize your contributions to our clients, our team, and our community. If you are a strong advocate, have a heart for helping others, and enjoy making a difference, we'd love to hear from you! This position will have a home base at our SW Portland office. Work will be performed in the community, at local businesses, and with our clients; some work may be performed at home. This is considered a hybrid position of remote and in-office obligations. What You'll Do Job Development Get to know each client's interests, strengths, abilities, experience, employment goals, desired hours, and workplace preferences. Help clients pursue competitive, integrated employment in their communities. Identify and foster connections with potential employers and employment opportunities. Contact businesses and develop relationships with employers throughout the community to build a network of professional contacts. Assist clients with applications, resumes, interviews, and other aspects of the hiring process. Use person-centered support to assist clients with presenting themselves to employers with appropriate hygiene, clothing, language, manners, and etiquette. Accompany clients to interviews when appropriate, advocating for accommodations needed for successful participation. Help employers understand a client's strengths, potential contributions, and why they should consider them as a candidate. Maintain and respect confidentiality around client disability disclosure preferences at all times. Work creatively and collaboratively with employers to identify appropriate and fair job duties, employment opportunities, and workplace accommodations to support their established and ongoing employment. Communicate regularly with clients and their support teams regarding employment progress and roadblocks experienced. Maintain an active, organized queue of employment opportunities and employer contacts. Complete required Job Development documentation accurately and on time, and communicate with upper management to file and distribute completed documentation appropriately. Maintain and regularly update an active calendar of meetings, interviews, activities, and work tasks scheduled each week. Build relationships by networking with employers, pitching our services, and advertising why partnering with us for hiring is beneficial and lucrative for their business. Job Coaching Once a client becomes employed, you may continue supporting them as their Job Coach.
You will:
Help new employees learn and comprehend their job responsibilities and workplace routines. Provide individualized on-site coaching and support upon hire, gradually fading support as the client gains independence. Help identify person-centered workplace adaptations or accommodations using creative solutions and problem solving skills. Maintain and respect confidentiality around client disability disclosure preferences at all times. Support and promote appropriate workplace communication and professional relationships with customers, coworkers, supervisors, and human resources. Coordinate and attend support team meetings with employers, residential providers, transportation providers, families, and other members of the client's support team when appropriate. Help develop and facilitate natural workplace supports so clients become increasingly independent, facilitating the fading of job coaching as independence increases. Assist clients with maintaining employment, navigating workplace challenges, and pursuing opportunities for advancement. Ensure workplace policies are understood, followed, and addressed if policy violations occur. Facilitate active and appropriate communication between the employer and appropriate parties to address grievances. Assist clients with obtaining and distributing paystubs as needed for wage reporting, proof of income, etc. Maintain an accurate and regularly updated calendar with clients' work schedules, appointments, meetings, and events. Maintain accurate and timely service documentation in accordance with our standards, communicating with upper management to file and distribute completed documentation appropriately. This Position May Be a Great Fit If You... Love meeting new people and aren't intimidated by introducing yourself to businesses. Are persistent and don't become discouraged when the first approach doesn't work. Can manage multiple clients, appointments, employers, deadlines, and documentation simultaneously. Are comfortable working independently in the community. Are an excellent, approachable, and professional communicator. Can be both encouraging and realistic. Enjoy helping people develop independence rather than doing things for them. Are comfortable advocating while maintaining professional relationships. Can write clear, professional documentation. Are dependable and responsive. Enjoy finding creative solutions to unusual problems. Believe meaningful employment should be accessible to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Are respectful and sensitive regarding conversations about abilities and accommodations. Prefer a dynamic schedule. Are comfortable driving to multiple locations throughout the day. Qualifications Experience working with adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities, supported employment, vocational rehabilitation, workforce development, recruiting, sales, case management, community outreach, or a related field is preferred. Because Supported Employment Professionals have ongoing training requirements, applicants should also be willing to complete and maintain all required employment-services training and continuing education. Oregon requires Employment Professionals to complete 12 hours of department-approved continuing education annually. Be over the age of 18, hold a valid driver's license, High School diploma or equivalent, reliable transportation, and ability to pass a background check. Have excellent written and oral communication skills, experience with Adobe, Excel, Gmail/Google Suite. Applicants must maintain a high quality of documentation of services provided and maintain deadlines for document submissions. Must be flexible with your schedule to meet the employment needs of your clients and must be able to work in multiple locations such as your home office, our SW Portland Office, and within the community.
