Part-Time Vocational Specialist Best Life RI | East Bay Area | 20-30 Hours/Week | Flexible Schedule Help young people explore careers, discover their strengths and build a path toward employment. Best Life RI is seeking a Part-Time Vocational Specialist to work with transition-age youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in East Bay area schools and throughout their communities. Working in partnership with the Rhode Island Office of Rehabilitation Services (ORS) , the Vocational Specialist provides individualized Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) and community-based vocational supports that help students explore employment possibilities, develop work readiness skills, and gain meaningful real-world experiences. Job Responsibilities Assist students with job and career exploration . Get to know each student's strengths, interests, abilities, preferences, and employment goals Provide individualized job exploration and career discovery Introduce students to different occupations, industries, career pathways, and workplace environments Identify employment and career exploration opportunities that match each student's interests and abilities Develop relationships with local businesses, employers, and community organizations Coordinate opportunities such as workplace tours, informational interviews, job shadowing, career exploration, and other community-based experiences Support students in developing work readiness skills , including communication, professionalism, problem-solving, time management, teamwork and self-advocacy Help students learn about resumes, applications, interviewing, job searching, and workplace expectations Support the development of life skills that contribute to employment success and greater independence Help students build relationships and natural connections within their communities Support students in exploring transportation and community navigation options related to employment Collaborate with ORS counselors, school transition teams, educators, families, employers, and community partners Document services, student progress, experiences, and outcomes accurately and within required timelines Who We're Looking For We're looking for someone who enjoys getting out into the community, building relationships and creating opportunities rather than waiting for opportunities to come to them. Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience required Experience supporting youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) strongly preferred Experience in vocational services, transition services, employment supports, special education, workforce development, or related community-based services Knowledge of ORS, Pre-ETS, transition services, and employment supports preferred Understanding of job exploration, career development, work readiness, and community-based employment Ability to develop relationships with employers, schools, and community partners Strong verbal and written communication skills Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills Ability to work independently and manage a flexible community-based schedule Creative and resourceful approach to developing individualized opportunities based on each student's goals, strengths, and interests Position Details Part-Time | 20-30 Hours Per Week Flexible Schedule East Bay Area Schools & Community Locations You'll spend time in schools, businesses, workplaces, and throughout the community , helping youth with IDD discover their strengths, explore employment possibilities, and build the skills, experiences, and connections that can prepare them for life after high school.
