Job Description

Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling Services The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center, a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault for over 40 years. We are seeking a full-time crisis counselor to provide counseling services to victims of interpersonal violence/domestic violence and sexual assault. Responsibilities include responding and providing services to requests for counseling and support group facilitation. The successful applicant will have a clear understanding of the dynamics of sexual assault, domestic violence, and related issues, extensive background in working with victims of interpersonal violence and their families. Knowledge and experience in trauma- informed care, and the empowerment client centered model. The Ability to work with adults and teens from a variety of backgrounds. Has strong organizational, verbal, and written skills, the ability to appropriately assess the needs of clients for services and some experience in group facilitation. Responsibilities to include but not limited to scheduling individual in person appointments with clients or providing telephone counseling and support. Submits monthly statistical reports and writes letters of counseling attendance. In conjunction with the counseling staff and director of advocacy services, coordinates, creates, evaluates, and implements designated support groups and psycho-educational classes in the community. Provides clients with updated information packet and additional reading material as needed. Attends and participates in staff meetings, peer support and professional supervision. Provides a positive, professional and enthusiastic image of the agency to the community at large. Upholds all agency policies and procedures. Provides individual counseling to clients in the community. Follows up on referrals made for individual counseling or groups. Screens referrals and make alternate referrals as required. Sends out written material on EBC services as requested.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of three years' experience working with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault including diverse people and groups.
  • Experience with Motivational Interviewing.
  • Master's degree in a related field is preferred; however, a bachelor's degree with equivalent professional and lived experience will be thoughtfully considered. Knowledge of and sensitivity to domestic violence issues and an expressed commitment to the empowerment of victims and survivors of abuse.
