Internal Title Assistant Director of Career Success Position Type Classified Faculty / Non-Faculty / Administration Non-Faculty Pay Band GEN07 Level Department School of Business Job Purpose The Assistant Director of Career Success is an integral member of the School of Business Student Success Center (SB SSC) team, supporting career education and experiential learning initiatives. This role supports the delivery of career advising, experiential learning, and student engagement services within the SB SSC. It serves as a primary point of contact for students, providing direct, high-impact career support through advising, workshops, and daily operations. Working under the direction of the Director of Career Success, this position focuses on student engagement and appointment availability for career education, including, but not limited to, resume and cover letter reviews, Handshake and LinkedIn profile reviews, interview preparation, and internship/job searches. The Assistant Director will assist with all School of Business career services operations to ensure timely, accessible, and effective student support. The Assistant Director will manage all budgetary responsibilities for the annual German-American Business Summit, including scholarships and employer sponsorships, as well as the Summer Internship Award budget. An essential aspect of this role will be managing and analyzing career and salary data, including data from Lightcast and the School of Business Senior Survey, to meet the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation requirements. Collaboration with campus and external stakeholders, including employers, is essential. The role involves providing a range of career-readiness services to students, including but not limited to workshops, presentations, events, tabling, drop-in hours, and marketing.
Minimum Requirements Education :
Bachelor's degree required. A master's degree in Education, Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Student Development, or Counseling is desired.
Experience :
Minimum of 2 years of experience in career development, higher education, or related student services. Experience in planning and assessing career or experiential learning programs is essential. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the principles and theories of student development and educational administration, as well as the techniques of individual or group counseling. Coordinates, manages, and instructs in-person and online classes on experiential learning and career development throughout the academic year. Provides supportive counseling for a wide range of student problems and concerns. Possesses a strong knowledge of career counseling techniques and student development frameworks with strict adherence to FERPA privacy regulations. Demonstrates proficiency in managing digital career platforms (e.g., Handshake, Lightcast) and creating engaging content for diverse audiences. Knowledge of the policies and procedures affecting all assigned program areas, including public relations and fiscal management. Ability to handle information and data, and write reports. Assessment and database experience with the ability to interpret career development assessment instruments. Experience using artificial intelligence tools, including ChatGPT, Copilot, and Gemini. Experience with budgetary and financial management. Additional Comments Regarding Position Occasional evening and weekend responsibilities are required. The Assistant Director works in a team setting with the Center's staff and will be cross-trained in select areas. Some overnight travel may be required for professional development opportunities. Manages walk-in hours and front-line student support, ensuring accessibility for high-demand advising needs. Delivers rapid-response advising during peak periods (career fair prep, internship deadlines, recruiting cycles). Assists students with interpreting job descriptions, tailoring application materials, and navigating Handshake and other platforms. Maintains consistent documentation of student interactions and outcomes. Essential or Marginal Essential Percent of Time 40 Activity Workshop Delivery & Classroom Support Facilitates career-readiness workshops and classroom presentations on topics including resumes, networking, interviewing, and job-search strategies. Supports delivery of the

Career Development course, and/or internship prep content, leading select sessions. Assists in creating and delivering interactive student engagement activities aligned with course and program learning outcomes. Partners with faculty to provide in-class career support and embedded programming. Essential or Marginal Essential Percent of Time 20 Activity Experiential Learning & Internship Operations Provides front-end support for internship programs, including assisting students with application questions and eligibility requirements, supporting learning agreement completion and documentation, monitoring student progress, and responding to routine inquiries. Helps manage internship data entry and tracking (locations, employers, pay rates, student details). Supports internship preparation workshops and communication campaigns. Manages and coordinates the Summer Internship Award budget. Essential or Marginal Essential Percent of Time 10 Activity Student Engagement & Outreach Supports tabling, outreach events, and student organization engagement. Assists in promoting career services through classroom visits, orientation sessions, and targeted outreach campaigns. Acts as a visible, approachable presence in the Student Success Center. Essential or Marginal Essential Percent of Time 10 Activity Event & Program Support Assists with career fairs, employer events, and networking programs, including logistics and student preparation. Provides on-the-ground support during events (student check-in, coaching, troubleshooting). Helps coordinate employer/student interactions during smaller engagement opportunities.
