GENERAL SUMMARY

Under general supervision, ensures the coordination, accountability, and delivery of Career Awareness, development, and career explorations. Works with students, parents, staff and administrators to meet the goals for the program. Reports to the Principal/s.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(Other duties may be required.)

Coordinates and presents professional development workshops in career development and guidance for teachers, school counselors, and work-based constituents.

Assists schools in promoting the goals of quality career development for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade.

Assists school counselors and students in identifying and accessing career information, resources and materials.

Provides educators, parents, and students with information on career and technology education programs offered in the district.

Supports students in the exploration of career clusters and the selection of an area of academic focus within a cluster of study.

Learns and becomes familiar with ways to improve and promote career development opportunities within the school district.

Attends continuing education programs for certified career development facilitators sponsored by the State Department of Education.

Assists with the selection, administration, and evaluation of career interest inventories.

Assists with the implementation of the District's student career plan or individual graduation plan.

Assists schools in planning and developing parent information on career development.

Coordinates with school counselors and the administration to plan and host career events, career classes, career programs and career fairs.

Solicits the help of citizens in the community representing various occupations to present to parents, students and staff.

Assists with the usage of computer assisted career guidance systems.

Interacts with others in a respectful and cooperative manner at all times.

Willingly performs other related duties as required and/or assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and/or

Experience:

Provisional status letter for CDF Certification, CDF Certification, Certification as a Secondary Guidance Counselor or significant progress toward certification, three years of work experience. Master's Degree preferred. Must be able to effectively work with students, parents, staff and community members.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school District which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position; knowledge concerning methods for developing lesson plans materials, and classroom activities which stimulate learning; knowledge of the records, forms and reports which must be prepared and maintained; knowledge of proper maintenance of equipment, materials and supplies used in daily activities; knowledge of counseling methods necessary for working to increase student achievement and student outcomes; knowledge of the materials and information which must be prepared for classroom instructional activities; extensive knowledge concerning all aspects of career development.

Skills/Efforts:

Ability to provide instruction to students through explanation, demonstration and/or supervised practice; ability to supervise students and maintain order in the classroom, on field study activities and special programs; strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; ability to prepare lesson plans, tests, and instructional materials for classroom activities; ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, District staff, and all other groups involved in the activities of the job; ability to utilize all community resources for career development.

Working Conditions:

Conducts duties in a classroom environment with little exposure to environmental conditions; physical demands are restricted to classroom work requiring the lifting/moving of items weighing up to 10 pounds; occasional local travel is required; some overnight travel may be required.
